Description
Hennepin County is seeking a Communications Manager who will manage strategic communication needs for the Operations Line of Business, including internal and external communication, event planning and execution. In this work, the Communications Manager will drive communication strategy and planning in partnership with departments in Operations, including Facilities Services and Information Technology, and will supervise a team to implement communication plans and tactics. They will coordinate, organize and meet with organizational leaders and other partners in business areas to provide strategic direction and execute content in multiple formats for both internal and external audiences. Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and/or weekends. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. Click here to view the job classification specification. In this position, you will:
· Plan and execute highly visible, complex, large events for the County Board and County Administration, including State of the County Address, Oath of Office, large community events, grand openings, open houses, groundbreakings and dedication ceremonies.
· Support the county’s broader communication strategies and plans; preparing speeches, presentations, and materials for senior leaders.
· Provide coaching for presentations; and writing and editing content for publication in all media.
· Help lead the county's internal communication strategy by applying best practices (i.e., usability, plain language, and branding) and providing effective strategic communication and consulting services to county officials, staff, and departments.
· Serve as a media contact and county spokesperson for Operations-related inquiries, and develop and manage relationships with members of the media covering these areas; respond in crisis situations in collaboration with partners.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Nine years or more of experience managing and/or facilitating the development and implementation of strategic communications for a broad range of programs, projects, and services.
o Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, communication, public administration, public affairs, or related field and five years or more of experience managing and/or facilitating the development and implementation of strategic communications for a broad range of programs, projects, and services.

o Working with senior leaders on communication strategy and execution.
o With event management and execution, including grand openings, open houses, groundbreakings and/or dedication ceremonies.
o Managing a team.
o In internal communication strategy and messaging.
· Demonstrated interpersonal skills that build and maintain relationships with teams, diverse communities, the media and other communication partners.
· Ability to:
o Identify communication needs and develop strategies, methods, and tools to engage business partners, both internal and external to the organization.
o Present information and convey issues and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
o Work effectively in teams, collaborate with staff, stakeholders and residents.
o Communicate effectively both in writing and in verbal communication.
o Manage complex projects with multiple partners on deadline with attention to detail.
