The Office of Broadband and Digital Inclusion is hiring a Digital Navigator. In this role, you will make a difference in the community, grow in your understanding of the services and support Hennepin County provides to residents, and foster relationships with internal and external partners. The Digital Navigator provides individualized or small group assistance to Hennepin County residents who need affordable home internet service, computers, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills, to help residents become effective technology users.

Location and hours: This position will be hybrid providing one-on-one and group assistance to Hennepin County clients with technology-related needs and will have the ability to work remotely as job duties require. Travel to various sites and community partner facilities in Hennepin County is required. Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.
About the position type: This is a full-time, limited duration (temporary), benefit earning position lasting up to two years.

In this position, you will:
· Receive, return, or initiate in-person, phone or email contact for residents seeking technology assistance or clients referred by other county staff.
· Assess information submitted by or, on behalf of, residents regarding their eligibility for relevant county, state, and federal programs that offer low-cost technology or internet service plans.
· Conduct technology needs assessments with residents to determine current technology access, barriers, and needs. Make recommendations on appropriate device, connectivity, and training options.
· Connect internal stakeholders and residents with community organizations that provide training, services and other resources that facilitate digital literacy.
· Help distribute computers and/or hotspots to eligible residents; support their technology use by orienting recipients to the device(s) and providing basic training and online safety best practices.
· Assist in collecting data and contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of the programs offered by the county.
· Assist in carrying out other projects and tasks within the Office of Broadband and Digital Inclusion.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Two years or more of responsible, paid social service experience providing direct client service.
o A two-year human services certificate.
o Two years or more of college coursework in the behavioral sciences.
o Providing customer service to individuals of various cultural backgrounds.
o Working with the community, civic engagement, and/or volunteering.
o To lift up to 50 pounds.
o Communicate fluently in a second language in addition to English, both verbally and in writing.
In addition to English, candidates with fluency in another language are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual duties and pay.
