The Hennepin County Elections department is responsible for the administration and supervision of all federal, state, and local elections in the county and 800,000 registered voters. Hennepin County’s Elections department is seeking Elections Specialists – Voter Outreach and Engagement. These positions will be responsible for communicating with and developing outreach materials for community organizations and voters about expanded voter eligibility. These positions will coordinate outreach and registration events in additional to supporting other voter outreach and engagement programming. Additionally, these positions will have basic election procedure knowledge to answer voter questions and assist with other Elections department projects as needed.

Location and hours:These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center (300 South Sixth Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487) and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and are subject to change based on business needs. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.
About the position type:These are full-time, limited duration (temporary), benefit-earning positions lasting through the 2024 election cycle, expected to end in December 2024.
These positions are internally classified as Administrative Assistant.Clickhere to view the job classification specification. In these positions, you will:
· Communicate with community organizations and voters about expanded voter eligibility.
· Develop voter outreach materials.
· Plan and execute voter education and outreach events.
· Supporting other voter outreach and engagement programming.
· Answering questions from voters on basic election procedures.
· Assisting with other Elections department projects as needed.
· Implement non-partisan voter education and outreach programming with diverse populations.
· Administer trainings on elections information and voter education skills.
· Collaborate with non-profit organizations and other government offices.
· Attend community events and community group meetings representing Hennepin County Elections.
· Answer questions from voters on basic election procedures.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or another field appropriate to the position.
o Four years or more of experience in general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
Nice to have:
o Providing outreach to diverse communities.
o Supporting voter engagement work.
o Developing outreach materials.
o Engaging with community partners and stakeholders.
o Working with Microsoft Office applications.
· Ability to:
o Read and interpret Minnesota election law and Minnesota election rules.
o Handle complex and detailed tasks in a fast-paced environment.
o Work collaboratively with a diverse group of team members, including internal and external partners.
o Estimate potential challenges and risks and generate solutions.
o Provide non-partisan, impartial and excellent customer service.
· Knowledge of election statutes, rules, department policy and procedures.

Hennepin County Elections works with partners at the federal, state, and local level to provide voting services to over one million eligible county residents in over 400 polling places throughout the county. Program areas include voter registration, absentee voting, voter education and engagement, local election clerk training, voting technology, election day operations, results reporting and certification, recounts and audits, candidate filing, campaign finance reporting, violation investigations, and elections data stewardship.
