Description
Come be a part of a team focused on creating new systems and processes that provide a unified approach to customer service. As a Resident Services IT Business Analyst intern, you will work in the Project and Support office and assist in the analysis of software development projects including gathering requirements, documenting processes, facilitating meetings, and assisting with the creation of business analyst artifacts. You may also work with project managers, scrum masters, and gain experience in leading small projects. You’ll develop project-based skills and professional relationships as you serve internal customers and support Hennepin County residents.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. For more information visit employee referral program. Location and hours: This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). The intern will work approximately 15-20 hours per week. Work hours may be scheduled around students' class schedules but must fall within the regular office hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. This internship will start in January 2024 and potentially last up to one year. While this position is designated as remote, based on current requirements hires must reside or be willing to relocate to Minnesota. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.About the position type: This position is a part-time non-benefit earning internship.This position is internally classified as an Intern II.Click here to view the job classification specification. In this position, you will: Provide IT software development support to the department's internal customers and Hennepin County's Resident Services lines of business.
· Assist with preparation and facilitation of meetings, working sessions and presentations.
· Assist with elicitation, analysis, documentation, validation and user acceptance of requirements and business processes.
· Learn standard methods for requirement elicitation, traceability, and requirement validation, measurement of system performance and analysis of performance measures.
· Provide back up support to technical processes as assigned.
· Access county trainings, employee resources groups and other professional development opportunities.
Lead small projects:
· Document scope, collect estimates, facilitate team working sessions, report on status.
· Learn the standards of planning and execution in various project frameworks.
· Create and document artifacts based on organization templates such as project charters and closures.
· Provide verbal and written statuses per organizational standards.
Need to have:
· Currently enrolled as a senior or a recent graduate (within 6 months) in a bachelor's or master's degree program in computer science, IT or related fields for the 2023-2024 academic school year.
· Access to reliable internet connection and self-support remote office space.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o With business analysis processes and methodologies/frameworks (Waterfall, Agile).
o Working in an application development environment.
o Crafting a variety of project artifacts such as project definitions, business requirements, feasibility studies, and recommendations.
o As-Is/To-Be process definition and documentation.
o Data Analysis.
o Data flow definition and documentation.
o Research and analysis of solutions, technology trends, and business analysis practices.
o Microsoft products and/or equivalent Google products.
· Ability to:
o Work effectively with IT colleagues, business partners, and other county staff.
o Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
o Learn software tools and develop new skills.
o Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services.
o Coordinate multiple project deliverables.
