Description
We're hiring an IT Project Manager I for Hennepin County's Information Technology (IT) department. This position will serve as a point of contact for projects working under supervision to manage small-medium scale or low-risk projects that do not have complex project plans and durations. The Hennepin County IT department delivers innovative, effective, and timely business-driven information technology solutions in a secure, reliable, accessible, and fiscally responsible manner.

Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Based on business needs of this position, hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

At this time, employees may be eligible to receive an additional cash merit of up to $1,834.33 that can be earned annually based on performance.
In this position, you will:
· Define project scope and objectives, prepare project charter and all required project management documents according to department standards, review project deliverables, and ensure adherence to quality standards.
· Coordinate and guide project team and direct problem analysis and resolution, execute project plans, and revise as appropriate to meet approved change requests.
· Manage day-to-day operational aspects of assigned projects and monitor and report on project progress; provide appropriate status reports to stakeholders.
· Assist both the team and purchasing division through contract negotiation and county board approval to meet project needs and manage integration of vendor tasks; track and review vendor deliverables.
· Participate in the development and implementation of improved project management processes, guidelines and metrics.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Four years or more of professional IT experience.
o Approved Hennepin County IT internship and three years or more of IT experience.
o Completion of five college/vocational technology courses and three years or more of IT experience.
o Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and one year or more of professional IT experience.
o Associate's degree in one of the fields below or approved certification in an IT program and one year or more of professional IT experience.
o Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, management information systems (MIS), or related field.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Working with Agile/Scrum.
o With formal project management methodology; project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, resource management, communications, risk management and awareness of organizational change management.
o Working in business and technical areas to assist customers and project team with strategic and technical decisions.
o Using Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project or Project Server, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Visio, and Microsoft SharePoint.
o Working within a formal Project Management Office.
· Knowledge of:
o IT systems.
o Agile project management techniques such as Scrum, Kanban and Lean.
o Systems development methodology.
o Application development principles and process.
o Infrastructure and platforms.
o Software development lifecycle (SDLC).
