Description
Hennepin County is hiring one or more Probation/Parole Officers in the Conditional Release unit of the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). This agent(s) would be responsible for supervising a caseload of clients that are on court ordered conditional release supervision while their criminal case proceeds through the court process. Agents are responsible for being client centered and supervising each case in accordance with best practices based on pre-adjudication risk level.
Positions are open to different levels of experience/qualifications and could be hired into the Probation Officer, Senior, or Career level depending on the candidate.

Salary based upon qualifications and duties:
Probation/Parole Officer: $62,483.57 - $93,725.36 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Senior: $68,888.14 - $103,332.21 AnnuallyProbation/Parole Officer, Career: $75,949.18 - $113,923.76 Annually

Location and hours:
Conditional Release unit positions are hybrid and will be performed on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis 55487, and remote as job duties require. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flexibility. While these positions are designated as hybrid based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. Rely on research-supported practices, including motivational interviewing to increase intrinsic motivation to change and promote skill building by utilizing Evidence-Based Practices (EBP).
Provide tools to help client build a support system that positively impacts the client’s well-being and promotes success while on Conditional Release Supervision.
Interface with the court hearing process by writing reports for the court and court partners.
Actively monitor client cases and make appropriate referrals for supportive services as needed.
Monitor client compliance with court ordered conditions.
Provide active case management with a variety of caseload contact standards, investigate client backgrounds, review public records, interview persons with first-hand knowledge of the individual, participate and collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and actively work with collateral contacts and the client.
Collaborate with law enforcement and criminal justice partners regarding client involvement in criminal activity to promote public safety and rehabilitation.
Maintain accurate documentation of a wide variety of case activity, including, but not limited to contacts with clients, victims, concerned parties and treatment agencies, utilizing department and client data systems.
Contribute to effective inter-agency relationships through formal participation as a DOCCR representative and/or leader. This includes but is not limited to justice stakeholder groups and agencies, human services, community organizations, academic institutions, department staff, volunteers, and interns.
Individuals hired at the PO level must demonstrate an ability to supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training, and perform the duties listed above.
Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.
Need to have:
For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, one of the following:
Associate's degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
Bachelor's degree in one of the below areas and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
Associate's degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
Bachelor's degree in one of the below areas and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.

Nice to have:
Experience working with clients who are currently involved in the criminal justice system.
Working as a Probation/Parole Officer or Case Management Assistant
Creating written reports for court.
Being familiar with community resource groups and community wrap around services for clients involved in the criminal justice system.
Bring responsive to client risk/needs based on validated assessments.
Triaging responses to client/court/community inquiries with other priorities that arise as a result of client behavior/court actions, etc.
Experience and knowledge of criminal justice process.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn: MNCIS, MGA, Statewide (S3), CSTS, BCA/Portals, Fieldware/Offenderlink and other related systems.
