Description
Hennepin County's Facility Services department is seeking a Security Dispatcher to join its growing team of career-oriented professionals in the Security Operations Center. In this position, you will receive calls and coordinate routine and emergency communications across more than 100 county facilities, multiple public agencies, and our own security officers, using computer aided dispatching, multi-channel radio dispatching, telephone, and other electronic means.
The targeted starting salary range for this position is $52,000.00 - $61,206.28 annually and will depend on the candidate's qualifications.

Location and hours:
This position is located at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487. Candidates may work various shifts that include day, evening, night, overnight, and/or weekend hours.

In this position, you will:
· Receive emergency and non-emergency calls for security service and medical assistance.
· Operate multi-line telephone system, prioritize calls, and initiate appropriate action based on incident type and importance.
· Contact police, fire, and ambulance in emergency situations and coordinate proper response.
· Dispatch security officers or other personnel using two-way radio or telephone.
· Operate and monitor a wide range of moderately complex computer driven equipment, including systems for life/safety, security alarm, closed circuit television, and building automations.
· Generate reports, maintain records, and perform data entry functions.
Need to have:
One of the following:
· One year or more of public safety dispatching or security dispatching experience, or approved equivalent.
· Completion of the 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Pathways Training program.
· One year or more experience as a first responder (police officer, fire fighter, or emergency medical technician, i.e., paramedic).
· Approved related education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Nice to have:
· Two years or more of experience as a security officer.
· Experience:
o Working directly with customers to provide support, problem solve, and offer solutions.
o Working in a dispatcher center answering calls, identify the caller’s needs, and coordinating services to assist the caller in a timely manner.
o Communicating using a multi-channel two-way radio system with over 30 simultaneous users, multi-line telephone, cellular phone, intercom, and messaging systems with a high degree of accuracy.
· Effective customer service and multi-tasking skills.
· Knowledge of:
o Dispatching policies and procedures relative to security or law enforcement.
o Computer systems, multi-line telephones, closed-circuit televisions, computer-aided dispatching, digital video recording systems, and communication software use.
· Ability to:
o Use sound judgment to work and cooperate effectively with others in stressful situations.
o Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; solicit pertinent information from potentially distressed callers and relay complex facts accurately and concisely; coordinate multiple assignments and direct others to locations and tasks.
o Make immediate, appropriate, independent decisions; work independently with minimal supervision and accurately record information and activity.
