Description
The Housing and Economic Development department is seeking a Senior Accountant who will perform senior-level accounting work related to the support of departmental, grant, and housing and redevelopment authority projects. This position provides support for management decision making, accounting/financial reporting, and is responsible for grant and general accounting, accounts payables and receivables.

Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at 701 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. Click here to view the job classification specification. In this position, you will:
· Prepare routine and complex journal entries, transactions or reconciliations.
· Perform grant accounting duties including assisting with preparing grant budgets, preparing and submitting financial reports to grantors, managing the grant revenue/receipt process, performing reconciliations, preparing and providing grant transaction support to the auditors and granting agencies, and assisting with the preparation of the federal schedule of federal expenditures.
· Prepare, analyze, or reconcile complex and routine financial statements and information according to standardized methods and procedures.
· Conduct complex and routine financial, operational and technology audit procedures; verify the accuracy of financial information and adequacy of financial and technology controls; lead or co-lead all aspects of these audits including planning, design of audit programs, fieldwork and audit report writing.
· Provide assistance in establishing adequate financial/accounting controls and procedures and develop new programs.
· Lead or participate in special routine and complex projects and provide assistance to departments in matters relating to accounting, audit or other topics.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Six years or more of professional accounting experience.
o Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or other specialty area related to the position and two years or more of professional accounting experience.
Nice to have:
· Professional accounting experience:
o Performing grant accounting.
o In the accounts payable and accounts receivable areas.
o Conducting complex and routine financial, operational and technology audit procedures including adequacy of financial and technology controls.
· Experience with Microsoft Office applications and PeopleSoft/APEX Financials or a similar electronic accounting system.
· Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
· Ability to:
o Handle multiple priorities with minimal direction.
o Communicate well both verbally and in writing.
o Meet deadlines and produce accurate work in a fast-paced office environment.
