Description
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking a Detective to join their team in the Investigative division. Sheriff's Detectives conduct investigations in communities where the Sheriff's Office is the primary provider of law-enforcement services, in communities where the local police department requests assistance, and in county facilities, including but not limited to, Hennepin Healthcare, North Memorial Hospital, and the Adult Corrections Facility.

Location and hours:This position may be assigned to any unit within the Major Crimes division and requires flexibility in hours including days, evenings, overnights, on-call, weekends, holidays, and requires being on call 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, and 365 days/year. In this position, you will:
· Gather, preserve, and analyze facts and evidence.
· Record statements and testimonies, prepare and submit reports of investigations, and follow up on preliminary investigation reports by other officers.
· Conduct thorough investigations of criminal cases by interviewing the complaining party, the accused, witnesses, and the officer making the preliminary investigation.
· Give authorized information to attorneys, other law enforcement officers, and the public.
· Assist in preparing material evidence for courtroom presentations, serve subpoenas, and testify in court on findings of investigations.
· Review bulletins on persons wanted by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Five years or more of law enforcement experience as a licensed peace officer.
o Associate degree or higher and three or more years of law enforcement experience as a licensed peace officer.
· Must be licensed as a Peace Officer by the State of Minnesota.
· Availability to work a flexible schedule including on-call, weekends, holidays, a rotating schedule, and emergency call back 24 hours a day.
· A valid driver's license and ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· The ability to follow the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Appearance Policy.
Nice to have:
· Experience in criminal investigations.
· Ability to:
o Collect, assemble, analyze, evaluate evidence, statistics, and other pertinent information to draw logical conclusions in order to effectively prepare criminal cases.
o Apply problem solving skills and make data driven recommendations for action.
o Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
