The Human Services Behavioral Health division of the Human Services and Public Health (HSPH) department is seeking a Senior Social Worker, with specialized knowledge of substance use disorder/mental health to join the Addiction and Recovery Services Unit. This position will screen eligibility applications for the behavioral health fund, perform utilization review of substance use disorder (SUD) placements for Hennepin Health members, respond to inquiries from multiple sources and provide coaching/training. This position will also work half of the time as a liaison with Hennepin County Children and Family Services (CFS) and Child Protection, providing clinical consultation.
This Senior Social Worker position is fast paced and relationally focused, involves a high degree of collaboration and advocacy with clients and community substance use disorder providers, and uses a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach. Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at one of the Hennepin County Human Service Center locations and remote as job duties require. Work hours are flexible and will be primarily days, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
In this position, you will:
Conduct initial screening with clients and stakeholders to determine eligibility for behavioral health fund or other behavioral health services and supports.
Consult and provide clinical direction with contracted providers, partners, and other human service professionals on best practice of substance use disorder.
Complete documentation, data collection, assessments, treatment coordination, and case notes.
Consult and provide clinical direction with Children and Family Services when parental substance use and behavioral health is symptomatic.
Engagement in disparity reduction and health equity work.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the below areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles or social welfare.
Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
Nice to have:
Dually licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), or:
Current Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LSGW), Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and working towards becoming clinically licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
One or more years of experience:
Serving individuals living with substance use disorder.
Employing harm-reduction strategies with individuals.
Serving individuals living with a mental health condition.
Effectively interacting with people from diverse backgrounds including efforts towards disparity reduction.
Knowledge of:
County and community resources for mental health, substance use disorder, social services, and basic needs.
Civil commitment statutes and process.
Harm reduction and trauma-informed care principles.
Person-centered thinking.
Social determinants of health.
De-escalation strategies.
Ability to:
Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
Effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
