The Human Services Adult Behavioral Health area is seeking to hire two Senior Social Workers (SSW) to assist in supporting individuals with mental health, medical, and substance use needs who have contact with criminal justice systems. These positions will coordinate with members of law enforcement and emergency medical services that have been sent out to emergency mental health, substance use, medically complex and high utilizers of emergency services. These positions will provide information, resources, and support through phone communication with officers, community paramedics, emergency room staff and with community members. These positions will also have the opportunity to provide outreach by phone to individuals that have frequent contact with 911 dispatch to support in exploring other service needs and/or supports. The social workers will coordinate, support, and engage with the work being done by other police embedded social workers in various police departments across Hennepin County.
Location and hours:
These positions will be on-site at the Hennepin County Sherriff's Office Dispatch Center, 1245 Shenandoah Lane, Plymouth, Minnesota 55447. There is no public transportation to this facility. These are phone-only positions. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday 2 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
In these positions you will:
Work closely with local law enforcement, 911 dispatchers, community paramedics, emergency medical services, community providers, and others.
Provide real-time support, consultation, and resources to 911 dispatchers and officers responding to mental health and/or substance use related 911 calls.
Complete phone outreach and assessment of needs with individuals who have complex needs.
Make referrals to community services and connect individuals to current supports.
Document referrals received and all case communications utilizing county systems.
Provide support to teammates, including but not limited to case consultation, facilitating workgroups, meetings, developing tools and resources.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles of social welfare.
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work..
Nice to have:
Licensed or working towards licensure in any of the following:
Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
Experience:
Serving individuals living with a mental health condition and/or substance use disorder.
Serving individuals who are involved in the criminal justice system.
Effectively interacting with people from diverse backgrounds including efforts towards disparity reduction.
Knowledge of:
County and community resources for mental health, substance use disorder, social services, and basic needs.
Harm reduction principles.
Trauma-informed care principles.
Person-centered thinking.
Social determinants of health.
And understanding of race-based disparities and the impact of these disparities on the development of a community, social justice, corrective justice, socio-economic statuses, and the affects to overall health and wellness of populations.
Ability to:
Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
Work well independently and as a team.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills.
Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.
