Description We're hiring for multiple vacancies for Somali-English bilingual, and Spanish-English bilingual WIC Nutritionists. These positions are part of the Hennepin County Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. In these roles, you will help eligible families in Hennepin County by providing nutrition education, supplemental foods, and referrals to other appropriate community services. WIC Nutritionists assist in coordinating these services at numerous WIC service sites across the county. Hennepin County Public Health is committed to advancing health and racial equity. Location and hours: These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at various WIC sites across Hennepin County and remote as job duties require. Locations are still being determined but may include our existing sites or new additional locations. Work location assignments may include two or more work locations in a week. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., but candidates must also be available for some evening hours as needs arise. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Employees must have access to reliable transportation to travel to WIC service sites and have flexibility to work varying shifts dependent upon the location. These positions are eligible for parking and mileage reimbursement for travel between work sites. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. Work at various WIC service sites to collect and analyze the following intake data necessary for certification and WIC eligibility: medical history, dietary assessment, and anthropometric and hematological data.
Provide nutrition education and counseling to WIC participants at the appropriate learning level; develop high-risk care plans for at-risk WIC participants.
Refer participants to community services such as medical and social agencies that can further assist them with additional resources.
Issue WIC benefits for supplemental foods and schedule appointments for participants on a computerized-scheduling system.
Explain procedures for redeeming WIC benefits and other WIC regulations necessary for new participants to understand; distribute the written information new participants will need after becoming certified.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Associate degree or higher in nutrition, dietetics, or a closely related field.
Designation as a WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Locally Trained Competent Professional Authority (CPA).
Access to reliable transportation to travel to WIC service sites within Hennepin County.
Nice to have:
Experience:
Working for a WIC program.
Determining nutritional needs and making dietary recommendations for clients/customers.
Working in community health and/or public health nutrition programs.
Providing nutrition information to women and children in a community agency, health care clinic, hospital, or hospital outpatient clinic.
Ability to:
Work effectively and communicate with individuals from a variety of cultural and lifestyle backgrounds in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.
Communicate fluently in Spanish and/or Somali in addition to English, both verbally and in writing.
Working knowledge of nutrients and nutritional needs for infants, children, and pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Computer skills to access and input WIC data.
