We are currently seeking a Project Engineer II to join our team in Eden Prairie, MN. This position will reside with the Engineering team and report to the New Product Development Manager.

Position Summary:

The Project Engineer II will provide project management and engineering activities in the design, development and support of DriSteem products and components. Tasks include both new product development, as well as continuation engineering for the assigned product lines. The individual will ensure conformance to project specifications, customer needs, and performance of new and existing products, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Project Management

  • Manage and participate in technical projects and cross-functional teams on product development projects or a technical activity.

  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost and performance as key design variables.

  • Lead and/or support mid-size projects of medium complexity and scope from written specifications to production in accordance with the DriSteem project management process.

  • Complete projects within budget, meeting cost targets, and on time.

  • Lead design teams in preparation of all required documentation including: work statements/charters, project plans/schedules, budgets, technical design specifications, test requests and other standard documentation.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations and lead project team meetings to management and other project stakeholders.

  • Coordinate to complete required stage gate and other project reviews.

New Product Development Engineering

  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems. This may include collaboration and providing direction to design drafters.

  • Organize, plan and assist with testing of new products both internally and externally.

  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services.

  • Aid and support others in the development of projects and products.

  • Improve and update internal documentation including process, technical and product knowledge as required to perform effectively.

Continuation Engineering / VAVE

  • Field product support requests for engineering assistance with released products within the team’s assigned product lines. This may include answering questions from the factory, identifying acceptable work-arounds to part issues, submitting design change requests (ECRs), responding to customer questions and concerns, etc.

  • Maintain a list of desired product improvements for assigned product lines, to be considered for periodic model upgrades.

  • Lead VAVE (Value Analysis / Value Engineering) efforts for assigned product lines.

  • Seek and propose annual value engineering and cost reduction opportunities.

Technical Expertise

  • Provide expert application knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as HVAC equipment, machines, controls, instruments, etc.

  • Serve as an expert within a technical area and educates others on technical issues.

  • Provide guidance to organization through the application of extensive/broad knowledge in the field of specialization.

  • Provide multiple product/component consultations as required to ensure product safety, quality, performance or other business needs.

  • Provide expert product/field knowledge on an as-needed basis to manufacturing, product management, sales, or other departments to resolve inquiries and problems to ensure immediate customer needs are met.

  • Participate closely in lab work as necessary (auditing, testing, design verification, competitive evaluation, etc.). Use typical laboratory tools and processes to safely build, test, modify and evaluate equipment.

General Responsibilities

  • Keep the organization up-to-date on industry trends regarding field of specialization.

  • Attend required (internal and/or external) training and/or trade shows to maintain technical skills and industry experience.

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers and management. Maliciously motivated criticism, bullying or harassment will not be tolerated.

  • Comply with any/all company safety and health rules and policies and promotes safe work practices. Report any safety concerns to supervisor/manager.

  • Ensure compliance with departmental guidelines and company standards.

  • Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

  • Tasks include deskwork in a standard office environment. Standing and walking are required approximately 50% of the time. Lab work requires use of tools and occasional need to lift up to 50 lbs.


  • Engineering Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate engineering discipline with at least 3 years of directly relevant work experience.

  • Ability to handle multiple and varied projects.

  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.

  • Strong organizational and creative problem solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of company personnel and others at all levels.

  • Computer knowledge must include Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD Inventor, SolidWorks, etc.) is a desired.
