Customer Service & Traffic Assistant: United Hardware Distributing in Plymouth, MN is seeking a full-time Customer Service & Traffic Assistant.

United Hardware Distributing Co. is a full-line wholesale hardware distributor providing products, retail programs and support services to independent retailers. Headquartered in Plymouth, MN, United Hardware services dealers from its 400,000 square foot distribution center in Milbank, SD and delivers to locations in 18 states.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Traffic Responsibilities:

  • Call Dealers and help process late orders

  • Work with inventory analysts to coordinate timely inbound shipments from top vendors

  • Update customer profile with accurate routes and stops

  • Keep vendor routing books up to date in Excel

  • Assist Dealers with customer service; resolve various issues, answer phones and make calls to dealers to help find missing freight

  • Call hardware store dealers when trucks are late or special runs have been established

  • Answer phone calls from vendors scheduling pickups, record and email copies to carrier dispatcher

  • Create pallet orders, adjust dates and/or cancel orders as requested by dealers

  • Record weight and number of stops from manifest and total at the end of the week

  • Create and maintain truck route manifest

  • Maintain & track all backhaul information including: calculating and recording freight on backhaul receipts; updating backhaul spreadsheets with rates from Lewis Lein and Traffic Supervisor; updating daily backhaul register

  • Assist with reviewing all Traffic billing including the weekly DLI/Valley Express bill & independent freight bills

  • Process and calculate freight credits in Epicor for dealers who have their own truck

  • Notify warehouse of changes to routes, backhaul pickups, store returns and when a dealer will not have a delivery, or needs an invoice released; request heated trailers on specific routes

  • Coordinate merchandise pickups for merchandisers including backhaul, common carrier & brokered loads

Customer Service Responsibilities:

  • Answer telephone calls as a part of the normal Customer Service call rotation and seek timely resolution to customer’s concerns

  • Record calls in the Epicor Call Log

  • Conduct necessary research to resolve problems while following Company guidelines

  • Work in partnership with vendor representatives and Milbank personnel to resolve customer Return Authorization Requests

  • Process claims and returns that are or called in

  • Process/enter special orders as needed (Emergency, Walk Through, Add-on, Regular & Promotional Orders)

  • Troubleshoot with dealers on issues pertaining to the dealer website

  • Work across and with multiple departments to seek resolution to dealer’s concerns and requests

  • Work Buying Markets (January and June/July) when scheduled

  • Serve as back up for receptionist

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • High School or GED

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Access and Excel

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines and juggle multiple tasks

  • Traffic Department and/or retail experience a plus

  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and builder’s hardware helpful

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to use a calculator, telephone, fax and copier

  • PC skills including: typing at least 55 wpm, data entry, email, internet browsers
