Wealth Management Tax Manager @ Boulay

Boulay, one of Minnesota's largest regional accounting and financial consulting firms located in Eden Prairie and Minneapolis, is currently seeking a talented, enthusiastic individual to join our firm as a Tax Manager.

Our WealthNAV™ process includes a detailed financial analysis combined with tax optimization, risk management, and estate planning to create a custom plan to help our clients reach their personal and business objectives.

 

The Tax Manager is the key link between Boulay Tax Department and the Wealth Management Department (Boulay Financial Advisors). This position is responsible for creating an excellent client experience as it relates to their individual and corporate tax needs. They will act as the primary relationship manager for clients as they lead the review, communication and implementation process between departments. Success in this role will be defined by client satisfaction, client retention, and effective use of Boulay staff in order to accomplish client specific goals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Primary relationship manager for some clients

  • Communicate with prospects and clients on complex tax planning concepts

  • Review advanced tax computations and workpapers

  • Review individual tax returns

  • Manage year-end planning and quarterly tax estimates

  • Address IRS or State Taxing Authority notices and provide a timely response

  • Coordinate, plan, and schedule work flow for effective engagement management

  • Organize and coordinate clients’ income tax data for accurate and timely completion

  • Delegate and oversee the initial preparation and set-up of client files

  • Identify and communicate issues and tax planning ideas with Partners and colleagues

  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to gather information and resolve client matters

  • Review WIP, invoices, and billing entries

  • Manage budget to drive a profitable engagement

  • Follow all regulations and ethical standards set forth by the Firm and other governing bodies

  • Share knowledge, train, educate, and serve as a role model for less experienced staff

  • Delegate work to less experienced staff based on their knowledge and capabilities

  • Develop rapport and professional relationships with clients, colleagues, referral sources, and prospects

  • Assist Partners in proposal and cross-sell opportunities, as appropriate

  • Stay abreast of changes and new tax developments

  • Participate in various business development activities as appropriate for one’s level

 

Qualifications and/or Experience:

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance degree

  • 6+ years of progressively challenging Public Accounting tax experience

  • CPA Licensure

  • Solid track record of career achievements and work quality

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Individual tax preparation and review experience

  • Strong knowledge of Internal Revenue Code, tax law, and tax processes

  • Ability to creatively solve problems and analyze client data

  • Ability to effectively delegate, supervise, and review work of less experienced staff

  • Ability to be flexible to changing circumstances and client needs

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize work to meet deadlines

  • Communicate feedback and constructive criticism to lesser experienced staff in a timely manner

  • Strong interpersonal skills, a team-based attitude, and a desire to collaborate

 

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with accounting software programs (CaseWare, BNA Tax Planner, Maconomy, CRM, T‑Value, CCH Tax, and QuickBooks a plus)

  • Familiarity with financial planning basics including budgeting, retirement planning, protection planning, and estate planning
