Position Purpose:

The IT Business Analyst (SQL) helps configure and manage the Ellucian Colleague system, reviewing business processes and designing SQL database queries and reports. This position spends time with individual offices to learn their language, understand their needs, and help them find effective ways to use computer systems to meet their objectives, through Colleague and other applications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

(35%) Support major departmental applications as assigned • Accounting’s general ledger and accounts payable (Colleague) • Accounting’s reporting system (Compusoft Synoptix) • Financial Aid’s awarding system (Colleague) • Student Accounts’ AR system (Colleague) • Student Accounts’ payment system (Touchnet) and Payment Gateway • Integration with Admissions’ recruiting system (Salesforce) • Consult on new projects

(30%) Support campus-wide applications • SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence (with Ellucian CROA) • Doc-e-Serve print formatting system • Colleague UI user account provisioning and security class assignment • Portal environment • Workflow system

(15%) Perform database-oriented development • Consult with users about data structures and implement new functionality • Write queries and reports using administrative and academic data

(5%) Provide backup-up support for other major departmental applications • Registrar’s class enrollments and degree completions (Colleague) • Student Development housing system (Colleague)

(5%) Assist in administering Ellucian Colleague system • Manage Colleague servers: Application, UI, WebAPI, Self-Service • Manage system access and security • Manage record locks and the process handler • Install updates • Develop forms, reports, procedures, batches, subroutines, and ELF imports • Administer Self-Service system configuration • Administer Microsoft SQL Server

(5%) Manage the IT relationship with specific offices as assigned • Regularly initiate communications with clients; help them prioritize jobs • Help document their processes; analyze workflows to improve efficiency

(5%) Help deliver first-tier support for all specialized software applications • Answer common questions for various specialized departmental applications • Make initial response on client requests; gather information on symptoms/issues • Proactively educate users to reduce occurrence of common problems

Implement mature technology management practices in each area of responsibility • Troubleshoot problems, delivering excellent customer service • Perform routine procedures and ensure that system backups are occurring • Maintain documentation, system logs, and inventory records • Continuously evaluate security and monitor system performance • Collaborate with other personnel and cross-train in various areas • Research requests from users and plan system enhancements • Implement improvements while managing competing priorities

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field • One year’s experience supporting customers • One year’s experience working with data tools (advanced Excel, Access, SQL, etc.)

• Ability to communicate and interact successfully with a diverse community of staff, faculty, and students • Ability to work both independently and as a team member • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills • Ability to learn new topics quickly and independently • Knowledge of the technology listed in this job description

Working Conditions and Frequency:

Outside of office hours Coverage for system emergencies during evenings or weekends.

Equipment and Tools Use of a PC and telephone approximately 95% of the workday.

Environmental Conditions Exposure to repetitive motion of the fingers, hands and wrists on a daily basis. Work is performed in a Christ-centered urban environment.
