Position Purpose:
The Network Administrator is responsible for the reliable and secure operation of NCU’s network and assists with server infrastructure and various other systems. This includes daily management, troubleshooting and support, and ongoing improvements to help NCU meet its business and academic needs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Implement mature technology management practices in each area of responsibilty
Troubleshoot problems, delivering excellent customer service
Perform routine procedures and ensure that system backups are occurring
Maintain documentation, system logs, and inventory records
Continuously evaluate security and monitor system performance
Collaborate with other personnel and cross-train in various areas
Research requests from users and plan system enhancements
Implement improvements while managing competing priorities
(30%) Manage Wired and Wireless Networking
Aruba wireless access points and controllers
Aruba Airwave and Aruba Clearpass
HPE Ethernet switches and VLANs
Cables, jacks, and wiring closets
Inter-building connections (fiber and radio)
(20%) Manage Network Traffic & Users
PFSense firewalls and IDS/IPS
Routing and VPNs
Internet connectivity (ISP vendor relations)
Second-tier end-user troubleshooting (including internet service for residential students and their consumer-grade devices)
(25%) Manage other systems as assigned, typically including
Single Sign-On (SSO/SAML) authentication systems
Linux systems
Apache, WordPress, and PHP environments
JAMF Pro (Apple device management)
Google Apps
(10%) Assist in Managing Server Infrastructure
Physical servers - HPE ProLiant
Virtual servers - VMWare ESXi
Storage Area Network - Nimble
Backup System – Veeam
De-duplication storage system
Server Room infrastructure, KVM systems, UPS systems
(10%) Assist in Managing Microsoft Infrastructure
Active Directory & Group Policy
File servers, print servers, RDP servers
DHCP, DNS
Email services
Configuration Manager and Operations Manager
Windows Server installation and maintenance
Windows Desktop installation and maintenance
Account creation and group membership assignments
(5%) Assist in Managing Telecommuncations Infrastructure
NEC PBX and satellite PBX
Univerge voice mail system
Telephone sets and circuits
911 location updates
Job Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in Networking or 2 years of previous experience in network administration
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate and interact successfully with a diverse community of staff, faculty, and students
Ability to work both independently and as a team member
Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Ability to learn new topics quickly and independently
Knowledge of the technology listed in this job description
Working Conditions and Frequency:
Outside of office hours
Coverage for system emergencies during evenings or weekends.
Equipment and Tools
Use of a PC and telephone approximately 95% of the workday.
Environmental Conditions
Exposure to repetitive motion of the fingers, hands and wrists on a daily basis. Work is performed in a Christ-centered urban environment.
