Systems Administrator @ United Hardware

Systems Administrator: United Hardware Distributing in Plymouth, MN is seeking a full-time Systems Administrator for our Information Services Department.

United Hardware Distributing Co. is a full-line wholesale hardware distributor providing products, retail programs and support services to independent retailers. Headquartered in Plymouth, MN, United Hardware services dealers from its 400,000 square foot distribution center in Milbank, SD and delivers to locations in 18 states.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supports and maintains desktops, laptops, peripherals, network switches, and software for Corporate and remote users. This includes but is not limited to: monitoring, installing, diagnosing, repairing, Virus protection, maintaining and upgrading equipment to ensure optimal performance

  • Provides support to desktop or laptop users on all company supported operating system and software applications. While the majority will be Microsoft office products, support is not limited to these products

  • Responsible for configuration and installation of all workstations and printers

  • Carry out regular checks on the status of servers from a hardware and software standpoint

  • Manage the data backup of servers and workstations through the checking of nightly logs, carrying out file restores as requested by users and System restores for disaster recovery

  • Regular maintenance of servers through the installation of software upgrades, patches, and hardware upgrades

  • Coordinate and supervise assistance from third party vendors when necessary for the installation and maintenance of software or hardware

  • Will be required to work outside of normal business hours to provide on-call support

  • Assist with the planning, design and implementation of network systems

  • Manage network systems and their corresponding or associated software, including firewalls, wireless, switching/routing and end-point communications while assuring system performance and protection

  • Monitor and maintain overall network/infrastructure health and performance. Provide root cause analysis of recurring problems and propose solutions

  • Configure test environments on a continual basis

  • Controls and maintains up-to-date library of product releases, service packs, hot fixes, patches, etc.

  • Maintains a repository for current baseline images of all production and test machines

  • Assists in the implementation and documentation of Best Practices in infrastructure maintenance and support

  • Add and maintain users on the network, assigning access, ensuring security and configurations are within standards

  • Participate in Team meetings, providing input and suggestions

  • Assist in gathering bid prices on equipment and supplies as needed

  • Provide written documentation on a monthly basis that defines upcoming needs of network, which would require purchase of additional hardware or software

  • Monitor and report licenses on applications to ensure compliance on a monthly basis

  • Utilize technology to provide staff with a fast, accurate, and secure method of gaining access to information so they can service the member in the fastest and most efficient manner possible

  • Monitor load balance on servers and make recommendations accordingly

  • Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested

  • Maintain good attendance record by being present for work each day as scheduled

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Associate’s degree preferred, plus 2 years experience in a Client/Server environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of training users in applications and fundamentals, and writing basic documentation.

  • Ability to solve problems quickly and completely

  • A solid understanding of network computing environment concepts, routing, switching, filtering; understands principles of client/server programming.

  • Is comfortable with most aspects of network administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printing systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software.
