Process Control Tech (Water Treatment Plant)

Process Control Technician position is responsible for modifying, writing, troubleshooting, and documenting process control and monitoring systems for the City's drinking water treatment plants, pump stations, and transmission/distribution system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, repair and assist with design software and hardware for analog and digital control systems. Control systems employed primarily consist of Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives, motor starters, etc.

  • Configure and program PID control loops and ladder logic control.

  • Troubleshoot and make modifications to correct errors and optimize system performance. Document modifications made.

  • Work with IT to create and edit operator interface screens and trends (GE Cimplicity)

  • Maintain written process narratives that document the control systems' basis of design which are used for end user training and reference.

  • Mark-up and maintain accurate as-built process and instrumentation diagrams

  • Provide ongoing technical support to operations and engineering in process control strategies, configuration, and implementation.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of hardware, software and communications problems; assist with maintaining PLC interfaces with field devices.

  • Tools used include Rockwell Suite and Asset Center.

  • Work closely with electricians, information technology, engineering, operations (production) personnel and mechanical maintenance disciplines.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification: Associate Degree in Instrumentation, Electronics Technician, Industrial Controls, Controls Engineering, or similar program.

Minimum Experience: None

Preferred Experience: Experience performing similar duties in an industrial or manufacturing setting or related experience in water/wastewater treatment facility(ies) are highly desirable, but not required.
