Category Marketing Manager: United Hardware Distributing in Plymouth, MN is seeking a full-time Category Marketing Manager for our Marketing Department. This is a remote position.

United Hardware Distributing Co. is a full-line wholesale hardware distributor providing products, retail programs and support services to independent retailers. Headquartered in Plymouth, MN, United Hardware services dealers from its 400,000 square foot distribution center in Milbank, SD and delivers to locations in 18 states.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Overall 4P management and execution of Product, Price, Promotion and Placement direction is at the core of this role

  • Develop annual business plans, including go-to-market strategies for each product category

  • Serve as “go-to” for all product-related questions from internal and external customers

  • Cross-functional leader and product champion, ensuring that groups (including: Merchandising, Information Technology, Finance, Marketing and Sales) within United Hardware are aligned on product/category strategies and initiatives

  • Identify cross-sell opportunities within and outside respective product categories

  • Provide retailers with recommended pricing based on competitive offerings and targeted profitability

  • Work with the Merchandising to develop promotions, utilizing supplier resources

  • Identify and disseminate product category best practices to retailers

  • Define department/category focus areas for the development of promotions and buying events

  • Conduct retail category reviews to assess performance

  • Develop and update product category planograms

  • Serve as designated resource and key member of Corporate SWAT team, addressing specific product issues/needs at retail level, when needed

  • Determine retail category roles, strategies, and tactics across multiple United Hardware product offerings

  • Identify category targets and objectives that drive value for key stakeholders including our retailers, vendors, and the cooperative

  • Identify “new to market” and emerging category opportunities

  • Translate internal and external data into detailed category strategic plans including retail assortment, merchandising, advertising/promotions and pricing

  • Liaise between Merchandising, Brand Marketing, Sales, IT and Finance departments to ensure execution of plans that deliver value to our retailer member-owners and the cooperative.

  • Responsible for all aspects of retail assortment product life-cycle management considering customer needs, category & shopper trends, and the competitive environment

  • Support the Merchandising team in vendor negotiations to ensure retail assortment needs are communicated in negotiation process to enable successful retail category assortment updates

  • In collaboration with Merchandising, determine retail promotional plans to achieve revenue growth for our retailers and the cooperative

  • Collaborate cross-functionally

  • Foster a high-performance, continuous improvement approach to Category Management

  • Ensure activities align with mission and vision of United Hardware

  • Secure, manage and maintain trusted relationships with key internal team members and external partners

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred

  • Minimum of five years of category management experience, preferably in retail hardware

  • Initiation and execution of projects by way of organizing and managing cross-functional teams

  • Experience in strategically penetrating, persuading and influencing internal and external stakeholders through clear and concise communications

  • Ability to distill customer insights and third-party data to develop a strategy with measurable results

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, work autonomously and juggle multiple tasks
