We are seeking a student currently to participate in a part-time internship as a cybersecurity operations intern. The intern in this position will participate in real-world incident response through learning and apply relevant security and Human Resources policies and controls. This position requires a level 3 security check as a requirement for employment.  Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Remote workers may be required to come on-site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. This internship will start in June 2024 and will last up to one year in duration. This intern will work approximately 20 hours/week.While this position is designated as remote, hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota.  Â

In this position, you will:Â
Analyze, classify, and process incoming email as potential spam or phishing attack.
Participate in security projects to mature existing tools.
Participate in the development and documentation of security operations center tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
Participate in the planning and execution of security tabletop exercises.Â
Participate in the development of lessons learned.
Need to have:
Must be in one of the following:
Current enrollment in an IT certificate program, associate, or bachelor's degree program in IT, cybersecurity, computer science, information assurance, or another related field.
Recent graduate (within 6 months) in an IT certificate program, associate, or bachelor's degree program in IT, cybersecurity, computer science, information assurance, or another closely related field.Â
Access to reliable internet access and self-support remote office space.Â
Nice to have:Â
Experience with cybersecurity.
Ability to:
Follow documented processes.
Troubleshoot and solve complex problems.Â
