Description
The Land Information and Tax Services department (LITS) has an opening for a Tax Accounting Supervisor in the Property Tax division. This position oversees a small team performing all property tax accounting functions for Hennepin County. The Property Tax division manages the billing and collection of property taxes for over 100 taxing districts in Hennepin County. Annual property tax collections are over $4 billion. The division is responsible for calculating tax rates, extending taxes, billing, and collecting and distributing the resulting tax revenue to the taxing authorities.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
· Oversee all tax accounting functions in accordance with tax accounting procedures, Governmental Accounting Standards Board rules, Minnesota Department of Revenue rules, and Minnesota State statutes.
· Apply accounting principles and procedures to solve complex problems involving the property tax and general ledger systems.
· Hire, train, and evaluate staff within the tax accounting unit.
· Serve as a liaison with county departments, government agencies, external auditors, or vendors for matters relating to property tax accounting.
· Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission, and core values for diversity, equity and inclusion.
· Develop future leaders by fostering a collaborative, diverse, motivative, supportive, and flexible work culture.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or business administration with an emphasis in accounting or other specialty area related to the position and four years or more of experience as an accountant or auditor, two of which are in a functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management related to the duties of the position.
o Eight years or more of experience as an accountant or auditor, two of which are in a functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management related to the duties of the position.
Nice to have:
· Three years or more of professional accounting experience in a public sector/government setting.
· Experience:
o Supervising, coordinating, or evaluating the work of accounting staff.
o Performing Minnesota property tax calculations.
o Reconciling ledger accounts.
o Preparing settlements to taxing districts.
o Using Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.
o Addressing racial, gender, LGBTQIA+, neurodiversity and/or differing ability equity.
· Ability to:
o Meet deadlines.
o Interpret policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
o Collaborate across the cultural similarities and differences of team members, including internal and external partners.
o Actively contribute to creating a workplace that values diversity and inclusion.
