The Public Works Transportation Operations department is seeking a non-benefit earning intern to be a part of the program management group.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Public Works Facility located at 1600 Prairie Drive in Medina, MN 55340 and Osseo Maintenance Shop 8751 Jefferson Hwy, Osseo MN 55369 or in a field environment within Hennepin County, and remote as job duties require. The Public Works Facility in Medina is not accessible by public transportation. This position has the flexibility in the start date, with the opportunity to begin as early as March 2026 or after the school term ends in early June. This role will continue through August 2026 with the potential to extend on a case-by-case basis. Interns are scheduled to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While school is in session, interns will work 5-10 hours per week, with some flexibility on work schedules. In the summer, interns are scheduled to work 40 hours per week.
While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

This position is limited duration, non-benefit earning internships. This position is internally classified as an Intern II.

In this position you will:
· Assist in plan production using OpenRoads Technology.
· Learn the fundamentals of OpenRoads software while producing maintenance projects.
· Assist in entering and checking project estimates.
· Create geometric alignments for pavement preservation projects.
· Assist with data collection, field inspections and other field work as required.
Need to have:
· Must be in one of the following:
o Current enrollment for the 2025-2026 academic school year in a vocational/technical or an undergraduate degree program in engineering, land surveying/highway engineering technology, civil engineering, geography, GIS, urban planning/studies or another related field.
o Recent graduate (within 6 months) in in a vocational/technical or an undergraduate degree program in engineering, land surveying/highway engineering technology, civil engineering, geography, GIS, urban planning/studies or another related field.
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· Reliable internet connection and self-support hybrid office space.
Nice to have:
· Experience with:
o Troubleshooting basic computer issues.
o Math functions such as arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.
o Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, ArcGIS or CAD and Adobe Acrobat.
o Construction equipment, materials and methods.
· Ability to:
o Walk on uneven terrain; bend and stoop; work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
o Communicate with staff at all levels of the organization, in person, and via email and phone.
