Detroit Lakes has 412 lakes within a 25-mile radius with a 1-mile-long public sand beach and is only 40 minutes to Fargo/Moorhead. You’ll find year-round recreation including skiing, fishing, bird watching, hiking, biking, skating, mountain biking, snowmobiling, boating and 8 area golf courses.
Housing in the area includes lakeshore, residential city, rural developments, hobby farms, apartments, condominiums and townhouses. The Detroit Lakes school district includes two elementary schools, a middle and a high school. Students can also attend three parochial schools and/or Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
This position has the flexibility to work a hybrid telework schedule or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.
Our Assistant Traffic Engineer position exists to assist the District Traffic Engineer in the area of project development including traffic plan design and provisions, internal and external plan reviews, project schedule management, scoping, detour agreements, and other duties as needed by the District Traffic Engineer. Key responsibilities include:
· Provide traffic engineering and traffic safety recommendations and designs during project development, final design, construction and maintenance operations so that plans, projects and maintenance programs conform to Federal and MnDOT standards, policies and specifications.
· Project Management – provide management for traffic activities so that projects and project activities are completed on schedule.
· Provide technical expertise and/or respond to a large variety of clientele in a thorough and timely manner related to traffic safety and access/congestion management concerns along with various customer services/support.
· Provide technical assistance in RFP preparation for consultant contracts, monitoring consultant performance and progress, making recommendations to the District Consultant Administrator for acceptance or products and services, and certifying contract payments to ensure consultant contract deliverables are met.

Here are the Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify for Engineer Senior, applicants must meet all the following:
Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)
To qualify for Engineer 2 Graduate, applicants must meet all the following:
A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Construction Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalent as rated by NCEES/EAC.
A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.
OR
A Master's degree in Civil or Construction Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalent as rated by NCEES/EAC AND
A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
One (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work.
OR
Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.
NOTE: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time: Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. Only one position will be filled; the final class and starting salary of this position is dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.
