The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is seeking a talented workers’ compensation attorney to join our Civil Division. This position will represent Workers' Compensation Claims Administration, County departments, and Hennepin Healthcare Services, Inc., on workers' compensation matters, including providing legal advice and representation in litigation.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Advise the Workers' Compensation Claims Administration and various county departments in workers' compensation matters.
Represent the Workers' Compensation Claims Administration and various county departments in litigation before the Workers' Compensation Court, Workers' Compensation Court of Appeals, the Minnesota Supreme Court, and the State District Court.
Research, investigate, and analyze workers' compensation cases.
Prepare pleadings, necessary documents, and reports for Workers' Compensation Court proceedings.
Confer with workers' compensation adjusters, attorneys, and other county employees and interested parties.
Participate as a member of a team of lawyers who practice in the areas of workers’ compensation, employment, and labor law.
Need to have:
Licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota and two years of experience as an attorney.

Advising parties, particularly employers, in workers' compensation matters.
Handling workers' compensation cases in litigation before the Workers' Compensation Court.
Preparing pleadings and necessary documents and reports for workers' compensation proceedings.
Knowledge of:
Workers' compensation laws and practices.
Civil practice, established precedents, and legal reference sources in the workers' compensation area.
Principles, methods, and practices of legal research and investigation.
Judicial procedures and the rules of evidence.
Pleading and practice of effective presentation of court cases.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a persuasive public speaking style.
Ability to:
Demonstrate good analytical and research skills.
Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with clients and colleagues.
Multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.
Analyze and apply legal principles to specific situations and issues.
