Description

Hennepin County's Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is hiring a Probation/Parole Officer (PO) for the Adult Probation Supervision Services division. This PO position is in the Intimate Partner Violence Unit which supervises a specialized caseload for clients convicted of domestic related offenses where the victim is a current or former intimate partner. The officer will have a client and victim centered approach as they work to promote client behavioral change, victim safety and public safety through a combination of assessments, individualized case planning, and supervision strategies matched to a client’s need and risk.

Salary based upon qualifications:

Probation/Parole Officer salary: $62,483.57- $93,725.36 Annually


Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and may be required to be performed both on-site in the community and remote as job duties require. This position will be based on the assignment either at the Hennepin County's Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415, the South Side Hub at 2215 East Lake Street, Suite 470, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55407, or Brookdale Division II at 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430. Work hours are generally between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:

• Effectively collaborate across diverse cultures, actively promote equity, respect lived experiences, and continuously expand your cultural awareness.

• Interact with victims, answer questions, and provide advocacy resources.

• Communicate and collaborate with internal and external systems and community partners

• Utilize Evidence Based Practices to promote behavior change and public safety including actuarial assessments, cognitive behavioral interventions and motivational interviewing, case planning, etc.

• Be responsive to urgent and emergent situations, prepare court reports, court orders and attend court hearings.

• Provide resources and refer clients to internal and external programming related to chemical use, abusive behaviors and mental health treatment to address specific client risk and needs.

• Maintain documentation of a wide variety of case activity including but not limited to contact with clients, victims, concerned parties and treatment agencies within DOCCR’s case management systems and other department data systems.

• Conduct field and home visits.

Need to have:

• One of the following:


o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education and one year full-time equivalent paid or unpaid experience in corrections, probation/parole, social work, counseling, human services case management, non-profit case management, law enforcement, client facing roles in criminal justice or courts, or education role serving students with individual development plans.

o Five years or more of full-time equivalent paid or unpaid experience in corrections, probation/parole, social work, counseling, human services case management, non-profit case management, law enforcement, client facing roles in criminal justice or courts, or education role serving students with individual development plans.

• Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of:

o The criminal justice system.

o The principles of Evidence-Based Practices.

o Adult Field Division policies and procedures.

o Community Interventions and services providers.

• Ability to:

o Complete The Level of Service/Case Management (LSCMI) assessments or have familiarity LSCMI.

o Use differing intervention strategies which facilitate client change and overall wellbeing.

o Foster commitment and build support for a diverse and inclusive organization that reflects the residents we serve.

o Implement Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) interventions, including Carey Guides and Brief Intervention Tools (BITS).

• Experience:

o Working with the Inter/Intrastate rules and procedures.

o Conducting home and/or community visits with clients.

o Working as a probation or parole officer.

o Working with clients from diverse backgrounds and/or victims affected by intimate partner violence.

• Excellent communication skills, highly organized and detail-oriented, and adapts easily to new technologies.
