Description
The Bridge Division of the Transportation Department is seeking a Bridge Drafting Technician to develop construction plans for bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects and to assist with routine bridge inspections.

Effective January 1, 2023, there will be a salary increase of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Public Works Department facility at 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, Minnesota 55340, and remote as job duties require. There is no public transportation to this facility. Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.
About the position type: This is a full-time, benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as an Assistant Engineering Technician. Click here to view the job classification specification. In this position, you will:
· Assist the project engineer with project development duties that include:
o Develop bridge construction and rehabilitation plans.
o Develop project items and quantities.
o Assist with project estimating.
· Assist with routine bridge inspections.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Completion of an approved land surveying or highway/civil engineering technology training program.
o One or more years of experience in technical non-professional highway, land survey, or related engineering work.
o One or more years of experience analyzing numerical data using computer software applications or developing and maintaining computerized information systems/applications.
o Thirty (30) or more college semester credits in mathematics, geography, geology, computer science, or engineering-related technical course work.
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
Nice to have:
· Experience in drafting.
· One or more years of experience in using drafting/computer software programs such as AutoCaD, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microstation.
· Ability to:
o Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
o Learn and utilize complex civil engineering computer software such as Bentley Open Roads Designer, One Office, and Microsoft Office.
o Read, interpret and produce construction plans and specifications, and other written forms of communication.
o Schedule, prioritize, and balance several tasks/projects.
· Familiarity with bridges including general layout, components and construction process.
