DescriptionThe Staff Development, Policy and Procedures team of Children and Family Services is seeking to hire a Child Protection Trainer to develop, evaluate, and revise curriculum for Children and Family Services staff. This role will partner with various professionals within Children and Family Services to identify training needs and create programming to support new and continued professional development within the department. In additional to curriculum development, this role will also be involved with the delivery of training for Child Protection Social Workers in intake, investigations and ongoing case management, as well as other staff within the department.The new Child Protection Trainer will participate in the induction training on Hennepin County's policies, procedures, and practices as well as mandated Department of Human Services training. This will include instructor-led training, court room training, job shadowing other Child Protection Social Workers on a rotational basis, and close supervision while receiving initial case assignments and training.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Location and hours:This position will be hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Human Services Building at 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55102 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.About this position type:This is a full-time, benefit earning position.This position is internally classified as a Social Worker, Child Protection.Click here to view the job classification specification.This position is subject to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Interim Final Rule on COVID-19 Health Care Staff Vaccination. As such, it requires the job offer to be conditional based on the candidate being fully vaccinated for COVID-19. “Fully vaccinated” means 14 days after receiving the second dose in a two-dose vaccination series approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a full or emergency-use basis, or 14 days after receiving a single-dose vaccine approved by the FDA on a full or emergency-use basis. After a conditional job offer is made, the candidate must show proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. Develop and revise Children and Family Services curriculum for new Child Protection Social Workers.
Ensure efficient and effective daily operations by providing and facilitating administrative, educational, and supportive services to new staff.
Develop in-service training dictated by a training plan created by the Staff Development unit.
Work with a team in developing curriculum geared to educating new Child Protection Social Workers in addition to other Children and Family Services staff.
Educate and guide new Child Protection Social Workers in assessment, investigation, court proceedings, interviewing, documentation, creating safety plans, and referrals.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Master's degree or higher in social work, or a closely related field with emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, or principles of social welfare.
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits or more of graduate work in the above areas, and three or more years of full-time equivalent experience as a social worker.
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits or more of graduate work in the above areas, and one or more years of full-time equivalent experience in child welfare or completion of a Hennepin County internship in child welfare.
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and two or more years of full-time equivalent experience in child welfare.
A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver permit and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients (including children) and to attend meetings throughout Hennepin County.
Nice to have:
Three or more years of work experience in a government agency working in the role of a Child Protection Investigator or Case Manager.
Conducting training needs assessments and creating training proposals based on these assessments.
Developing and revising curriculum for adult learners.
Providing comprehensive social worker case management services with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Working with child protection systems.
Developing care and case plans that meet the needs of and ensure safety and stability for clients and families.
Partnering with social workers, departmental staff, collateral resources, and others to develop work agreements and outcome-focused relationships to assist clients/families in achieving their goals.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing including phone skills to obtain accurate data from reports and writing skills to record the information clearly and concisely.
Advanced skill in a variety of computer applications including SSIS, ECF, and/or comparable programs.
