Description
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office (CAO) is seeking to hire an experienced Data Steward. CAO is required to be compliant and follow state statutes and rules when responding to requests for government data. This role is essential for ensuring transparency, privacy, and responsible handling of government data. This position will focus on government data request activities across the department.
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed at the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 554487, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
• Implement department processes and procedures to manage data requests.
• Analyze and complete assigned requests for government data consistent with data policies and state, federal, and regulatory requirements.
• Compile responsive data, identify any nonpublic data that cannot be released, redact when necessary.
• Serve as a department contact for questions related to the release of CAO records and data.
• Develop, implement, and administer guides, uniform practices, and review CAO policy and procedures as they relate to data practices and access to CAO records and data.
• Develop and present relevant training to CAO employees.
• Serve as a department data steward responsible for understanding and applying knowledge to ensure the security, integrity, and availability of the department’s data.
Need to have:
• One of the following:
o Eight or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
o Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
• Note: General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets.

o Working with and interpreting Minnesota state statutes.
o Understanding interpreting, and applying policy, procedure, and uniform practice.
o Gathering and analyzing information using strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
o Performing complex general administrative work including adapting to changing circumstances, manage competing priorities, and effectively responding to last minute requests.
• Knowledge of:
o Administrative principles and practices relating to the management of departmental operations.
o The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
o The Official Records Act.
• Ability to:
o Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
o Complete high priority work that may be new or unfamiliar.
o Apply critical thinking skills and make independent decisions.
o Learn, understand, apply, and adapt to new technologies and electronic case management systems.
o Find and be guided by Minnesota state statutes.
o Establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the organization.
