Description
Hennepin County's Transportation Department is seeking an Electronics Technician. This position will work in the traffic signal shop which is responsible for maintaining traffic signals, flashers, and electronic traffic control devices on Hennepin County roads.

Location and hours:This position is located at the Public Works Facility, 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, MN 55340. There is no public transportation to this facility. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. After training is complete, this position will require the ability to work on-call hours during evenings, weekends, holidays, and the ability to respond to an emergency call within two hours. Based on current requirements, hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:
· Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain: video detection systems, pan, tilt, zoom cameras, rapid rectangular flashing beacon, driver’s feedback signs, Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP), advanced system controllers, coordinate with external agencies and public, and keep records of repair.
· Modify signal cabinets in the field to implement operational, engineering, or safety enhancements.
· Implement signal coordination systems including field installation, timing, and programming.
· Update schematics, cabinet prints, field intersection prints, technical manuals, and programming documents needed to repair, install, and maintain traffic control systems and components.
· Build, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade, and maintain signal system cabinet components, such as local controllers, masters, modems, etc. Upgrade microprocessor-based traffic signal controllers.
· Make modifications following schematic drawings and sketches.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Completion of an approved technical school program (or related educational program) in electronics or computer technology and two years or more of experience in electronic maintenance, repair, and modification
o Note: Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
o Note: Specialized experience in traffic control, building systems, electro-mechanical or other electronic devices may be required.
· A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· Must obtain and maintain an unlicensed electrician registration with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry.
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions at heights of up to 40 feet and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o In electronics maintenance, repair, or testing.
o Building, testing, or inspection of traffic signal controller cabinets.
o Maintaining, repairing, and testing copper wire and fiber optic interconnect.
o Maintaining, repairing, or testing emergency vehicle pre-emption (EVP) or railroad pre-emption systems.
o With the installation, programming, or testing of video detection equipment.
o With Microsoft office.
· Knowledge of:
o Functions in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and solid state devices.
o Traffic signal timing terminology and methods.
o Software; Aries and Highway Capacity Manual.
· Ability to:
o Work independently and in a team setting and make decisions with minor supervision.
o Use a computer and traffic management software.
o Read complex electrical diagrams and plans.
