We're hiring a Survey Crew Member - Assistant Engineering Technician or Engineering Technician for the Surveyor's Office that will be working on project in the field to collect GPS data. These positions will require use and proficiency with basic surveying instrumentation.
The Hennepin County Surveyor's Office maintains and preserves the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) throughout Hennepin County. The office also provides surveying services for the County including the Department of Transportation, Examiner of Titles, Regional Railroad Authority, Property Services and Tax Forfeited Lands.

Engineering Technician, Assistant (Level I): $45,200.03 - $59,084.86 Annually
Engineering Technician (Level II): $57,089.60 - $68,065.86 Annually
Location and hours: These positions are located at the Hennepin County Government Center at 300 6th South, Minneapolis, MN 55487 with field work performed throughout the county. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

In these positions, you will:
For hire as an Assistant Engineering Technician (Level I):
Set up and operate electronic and other survey field equipment and safety equipment; locate survey monuments; maintain survey and other equipment.
Assist in developing, planning, and conducting a GPS campaign.
Research public records, assist in maintaining records of Public Land Survey corners.
Analyze field data and operate computer equipment.
For hire as an Engineering Technician (Level II, includes the above duties):
Direct and check the work of technicians in lower-level job classes.
Need to have:
For hire as an Assistant Engineering Technician (Level I):
One of the following:
Completion of an approved highway/civil engineering technology or land surveying training program.
One or more years of experience in technical non-professional highway, land survey, geographic information systems application, or related engineering work.
One or more years of experience analyzing numerical data using computer software applications or developing and maintaining computerized information system applications.
Thirty (30) college semester credits in mathematics, geography, computer science, or engineering related technical courses.
For hire as an Engineering Technician (Level II):
One of the following:
Three years or more of experience in technical non-professional highway, land survey, geographic information systems application, or related engineering work.
Three years or more of college or technical school credits in a related engineering or computer science field.
Current certification as a Certified Survey Technician (CST), Level 2.
A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
Ability to lift items weighing up to 60 pounds; climb up and down slopes; work outdoors, and around traffic in all weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Nice to have:
Experience:
Using computer software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, and Adobe Acrobat.
Using Leica, Trimble, or similar survey equipment such as GPS units, Total Stations, controllers/data collectors, etc.
Previously working as a Survey Crew Member.
Working with the Public Land Survey system.
Knowledge of CAD software programs and the ability to sync with surveying field equipment to download/upload data.
Knowledge of math functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; and the ability to apply math functions to survey and mapping solutions.
Ability to:
Schedule, prioritize, and balance several tasks/projects.
Work independently and in teams with minimal lead worker direction.
Demonstrate the employee competencies.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
