Description
Hennepin County is excited to be accepting applications for an intern for our Facility Services department, Design and Construction division. Design & Construction provides project management for the design and construction of sustainable, accessible and cost-effective facilities for the county. This includes developing project scopes, schedules and estimates, managing the project team and stakeholders, and overseeing consultant, contractor and vendor activities.
The Design and Construction division is part of project delivery that is responsible for schematic design through construction administration. The architectural interns will be working on a variety of projects including the Government Center/ Courts and Health Portfolios.
Interns must be currently enrolled as a fourth or fifth-year undergraduate student in a bachelor's degree program or a master's degree program or a recent graduate (within 6 months from graduation) in architecture, engineering, or construction management.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require. This position requires the intern to travel to job sites throughout the county. The internship is intended to start June 2025 and last up to 6 months with the potential to extend. The work hours are flexible to accommodate class schedules with approximately 20-40 hours per week. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must be willing to relocate or reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:
· Work with vendors to design and implement a variety of smaller projects.
· Attend design and construction meetings.
· Assist in reviewing plans and specifications.
· Assist in soliciting quotes, communications, and proposals.
· Maintain budgets for smaller projects.
· Assist in submittal review.
· Assist in gathering close out documentation on bid projects.
· Researching B3 and LEED.
· Support staff assigned on a project basis; major project, design, construction and contract management for new facilities and major remodeling/repair of existing facilities.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Current enrollment as a fourth or fifth-year undergraduate student in a bachelor's or master's degree program in architecture, engineering, construction management, or interior design.
o Recent graduate (within 6 months from graduation) in a bachelor's or master's degree program in architecture, engineering, construction management, or interior design.
· Access to reliable transportation to travel to sites throughout Hennepin County.
· Access to reliable internet.
Nice to have:
· Advanced knowledge of:
o Adobe Acrobat.
o AutoCAD.
o Bluebeam.
o Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
· Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings.
· Experience leading a project from beginning to end.
