Description
Resident Services IT is seeking an IT Operations Analyst intern. This person will provide technical and operational support, including technical writing, to internal customers. As an intern, you’ll work with a variety of IT and business stakeholders and internal customers. This role is perfect for an innovative individual with strong writing skills, a desire to troubleshoot technical issues, and an interest in programming. You’ll learn business processes, perform business and gap analysis, and gain valuable experience coordinating and collaborating on technical projects with mentor guidance. Excellent interpersonal communication, customer service skills, and a collaborative spirit are essential for success in this position. You’ll grow your technical and interpersonal skills working on a small collaborative team that serves internal customers and supports Hennepin County residents. Location and hours:
This position is hybrid. Work will be performed both on site at the Hennepin County Government Center 300 South 6th St, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and/or other Hennepin County facilities, and remotely as job duties require. The intern will work approximately 15-20 hours per week. Work hours may be scheduled around a student’s class schedule, but must fall within the regular office hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. This internship will start in March 2025 and potentially last up to 12 months. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements, hires must relocate or reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
· Respond and assist in the delivery of solutions for business partners and end-user requests for hardware/software and other technical and administrative needs.
· Use technical writing skills to effectively communicate oral and written operational and technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
· Provide high-level customer service via phone, email, MS Teams, and in person contact.
· Document operational and technical specifications and requirements that support development, testing, deployment, and system maintenance of new technologies and applications.
· Provide technical and operational support of end-user applications and related infrastructure.
· Help with coordinating onboarding and offboarding processes, including equipment and phone procurement and access setup.
· Schedule meetings, create agendas, ensure goals of meetings are met through note taking and action item follow up.
· Perform project and quality assurance duties as needed.
· Participate in professional development activities and trainings.
· Network with staff and expand your professional network.
Need to have:
· Current enrollment as of Spring 2025 in one of the following:
o IT certificate program.
o Second year in an associate's degree program in computer science, management information systems, information technology, or a related field.
o Junior year in a bachelor's degree program in computer science, management information systems, information technology, or a related field.
· Access to reliable internet connection and self-supported hybrid office space.
· Access to reliable transportation.
Nice to have:
· Experience with:
o Providing customer service in person and/or over the phone.
o Working collaboratively in a technical environment supporting business applications, software and hardware; troubleshooting problems; and creating innovative solutions.
o Business and technical process analysis, such as identifying gaps, bottlenecks and improving efficiency.
o Listening to customers and tailoring your response/service to their specific needs.
o Handling projects through multi-tasking, organization, task follow-through to closure, and providing a deep level of customer care.
o Technical writing, such as instruction manuals, user guides, project proposals or technical reports.
o Using Microsoft office suite or equivalent Google products.
· Ability to:
o Work effectively with people from a variety of different backgrounds.
o Work with a team collaboratively or independently as needed.
o Install applications, upgrades, and fixes.
o Learn and apply software and hardware troubleshooting techniques.
