The Hennepin County Public Health Clinic is seeking a Registered Staff Nurse. This position will provide sexual health care services including sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing & treatment, family planning, and HIV screening and prevention services within a multidisciplinary team of medical providers including nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants, administrative staff, and community health specialists. In addition to direct patient care, this position will include phone triage, providing test results and education to patients over the phone, managing Epic in-basket pools, and completing prior authorizations and clinic data analysis reporting. This position may also provide tuberculosis (TB) care and treatment, refugee health screening services, and treatment of individuals with Opioid Use Disorder as warranted by clinic volume and utilization.

Location and hours:
This position is located at the Public Health Clinic, 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Current clinic hours are primarily 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. This position will require working one evening shift when the clinic resumes evening hours on Mondays and Wednesdays until 7:30 p.m. No weekend, overnight, or holiday shifts are required. Based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
This position is subject to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Interim Final Rule on COVID-19 Health Care Staff Vaccination. As such, it requires the job offer to be conditional based on the candidate being fully vaccinated for COVID-19. “Fully vaccinated” means 14 days after receiving the second dose in a two-dose vaccination series approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a full or emergency-use basis, or 14 days after receiving a single-dose vaccine approved by the FDA on a full or emergency-use basis. After a conditional job offer is made, the candidate must show proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. A COVID-19 vaccination card from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a vaccination record from your doctor’s office or a personal digital vaccination record constitutes sufficient “proof.” The candidate must also attest they are vaccinated by completing a form on the first day of employment. In this position, you will:
Deliver nursing care and interventions, working under authority of an independent nurse scope of practice, delegated care or program standing orders.
Provide triage, assessment, screening, vaccinations, and treatment to clients seeking STD/HIV screening, evaluations, and treatment.
Provide phone triage, including providing test results and education to patients.
Manage Epic in-basket pools- responding to patient messages and reviewing lab results.
Provide health education regarding family planning, HIV, STIs, and harm reduction practices including Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD).
Coordinate efforts of interdisciplinary patient care, including directing workflow and facilitating communications between the patient care team to ensure integrated and coordinated care.
Provide care coordination and referral to ensure seamless delivery of care and care transitions, to improve communication among public health care teams, and to guide patients and communities toward an effective use of resources.
Document data, plans, clinical actions, client progress, response to care and other relevant client/patient information in compliance with statute and rules of confidentiality.
Communicate and coordinate with members of the care delivery team, clients, families, and other outside resources to ensure delivery of care and successful care transitions.
Need to have:
Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
A valid license as a Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of Minnesota.
Current CPR certification.
Nice to have:
Certification by the Minnesota Department of Health as a Public Health Nurse (PHN).
Experience:
Two or more years as a Registered Nurse in a clinic setting, including administering immunizations, triaging patients, providing client education, conducting independent nurse visits, and completing lab work.
Supporting the needs and issues of a racially, culturally and socioeconomically diverse patient base.
Conducting sexual health and sexual risk assessments.
Working with Electronic Health Records (EHR)-such as Epic.
Knowledge of:
Contraceptive care & family planning resources, community-based medical resources, STI/HIV screening and counseling, refugee resettlement and TB/LTBI management.
Harm reduction principles and approach to care.
Ability to:
Work independently and make professional nursing judgments and decisions when interacting with patients.
Develop rapport with a diverse client population and act as an advocate for patients.
Recognize and respect cultural differences and provide culturally appropriate services.
Remain non-judgmental in working with patients who experience stigma & marginalization in health care settings.
