Description
Hennepin County's Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking two Probation/Parole Officers to work in the Juvenile Probation (JP) division. These positions will work towards client change as well as victim and public safety through a combination of client assessments, individualized case planning, supervision strategies matched to client need and risk, and utilize assessments to guide case management.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Salary based upon qualifications:
Probation/Parole Officer salary: $58,614.98 - $87,922.48 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $61,545.73 - $92,318.60 AnnuallyProbation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $67,854.17 - $101,781.26 Annually

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site and remote as job duties require. One of these positions will be located at the Juvenile Probation North office, 1256 Penn Avenue North, Suite 5400, Minneapolis, MN 55411, and the other position will be at the Juvenile Justice Center, 590 Park Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415. Work hours for both of these positions are generally Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with flexibility. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. · Evaluate client’s risk and needs, utilizing objective assessments and other screening instruments; interpret and assess the information to inform supervision and make referrals for programming based upon client risks and needs.
· Use research-supported practices, including motivational interviewing to increase intrinsic motivation to change and promote skill building by utilizing Evidence-Based Practices (EBP).
· Provide tools and case management services through ongoing collaborative, person-centered, and strength-based relationship with the client to build a support system that positively impacts the client’s well-being and promotes success with supervision.
· Maintain accurate documentation of case activity, including, but not limited to contacts with clients, parents and/or caregivers, collateral and/or professional contacts, utilizing department and client data systems.
· Plan intentional, targeted visits with clients to investigate or monitor case plan goals, skill development, and risk reduction.
o Individuals hired at the PO level must demonstrate an ability to supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.

· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit and one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
· Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate (Download PDF reader) may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior:
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit and one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field, and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.

o Utilization of Cognitive Behavioral Interventions.
· Knowledge of the Department of Corrections Hearings and Release unit processes.
· Proficiency in (or a willingness to learn) Microsoft Office applications.
