Description
Hennepin County Library is seeking one full-time and one part-time Youth Program Associates to fulfill the role of Assistant Coordinators of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center at Minneapolis Central Library. Best Buy Teen Tech Center (BBTTC) is an interactive, drop-in, place where teens are using a “learn by design” approach. The space is designed for teens to collaborate and experiment with technology.
The Assistant Coordinators will assist youth ages 12-19 by fostering project-driven learning around teens’ interests and passions. The BBTTC provides support and resources for young people to pursue their interests and build upon their talents. In the BBTTC, youth can create their own music, digital art, robots, computer games, crafts, and animation using professional level technology. Working in conjunction with the BBTTC Coordinator and a dedicated team of library staff and volunteer mentors, the Youth Program Associate will be a primary contact for youth after school and during evening hours. Schedule will vary and will include daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

These positions are performed at Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, MN 55401. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday. Schedule will vary and will include daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

In these positions, you will:
· Manage an informal, drop-in learning environment; support youth working on projects, mentor and build a relationship with youth, and troubleshoot professional level technology.
· Maintain proactively a welcoming and safe environment by managing youth behavior and working with colleagues including security staff as necessary to address challenges.
· Collaborate with colleagues and community partners to connect youth with resources, including social services, jobs, creative opportunities, and educational resources.
· Promote teambuilding and cultivate leadership skills among youth employees and volunteers to support programming and service needs.
· Continue to learn about and demonstrate skill in the use of evolving and emerging technology used by youth including:
o Adobe Creative Suite
o Recording studio, using Logic Pro and Protools, Midi keyboards, and traditional instruments
o Glowforge Laser engraver and cutter
o Digital Cameras, Videography, and professional photo printers
o Makerbot 3D Printer
o Scratch and coding languages
o Sewing machines and T-Shirt heat press
o Esports
· Provide administrative support for the BBTTC, including keeping records of participants and keeping the BBTTC space organized.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Four years of customer service experience.
o Three and half years (42 months) of customer service experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program.
o Two years of post-secondary education in library or information science, English, history, education, sociology, or a related field, and two years of customer service experience.
o Bachelor's degree in library or information science, English, history, education, sociology or a field related to the position.
· Availability to work variable hours, including daytimes, evenings, and weekends.
