Description
Hennepin County Public Works is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician to join the Design division within the Transportation Project Delivery department. This position will work as part of a team to deliver roadway reconstruction projects with opportunities for professional and technical growth through training and working with other experienced roadway design professionals.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be located at the Public Works Facility, 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, MN 55340 and remote, as job duties require. There is no public transportation to this facility. Work hours are flexible between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

Prepare complete construction plans by applying roadway design criteria that include geometric layouts, develop typical sections, profiles, cross sections, while incorporating design standards, and specifications.
Perform computer-aided roadway design and drafting functions.
Compute, balance, and check roadway geometrics, contract and earthwork quantities and associated tabulations, and cost estimates.
Coordinate design work with utility companies and other agencies to identify and mitigate conflicts with proposed work.
Direct, train, and check the work of other technicians.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Five years or more experience in technical non-professional highway, land survey, geographic information systems application, or related engineering work, including specialized experience in the function performed.
Current Certified Survey Technician (CST) Level 3
GIS Professional Certification (GISP)
Licensed Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT).
Note: One of the following may be substituted for one year of the required experience:
Completion of an approved highway/civil engineering technology or land surveying training program.
30 college semester credits in mathematics, geography, computer science or engineering-related technical courses.
A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.

Experience:
Directing a work team and/or coordinating work with other functional groups/disciplines.
Utilizing complex computer software, such as CAD (OpenRoads, InRoads, Geopak, Civil 3D or equivalent), GIS, spreadsheets, or databases.
Ability to:
Use critical thinking to make decisions based on established guidelines.
Read and interpret MnDOT Standard Design Manuals and Technical Memos, construction plans, specifications, and other written forms.
Schedule, prioritize, and balance several tasks/projects.
Work independently and in teams with minimal lead worker direction.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
