As a SCOPE service center representative, you will provide couples with their marriage license, process a new driver's first permit, and help residents understand their real estate tax payments. Every day, our service centers process hundreds of transactions and each one is unique to the customer. This internship are a match for you if you are customer focused, a detail oriented student, self-motivated, can work independently, prioritize tasks, and multitask in a very fast paced environment. This internship gives you an opportunity to work with current and historical vital record documents.
SCOPE (Student Collegiate Opportunities for Professional Employment) is a county-wide program to employ students from colleges and other post-secondary learning institutions as interns in order to prepare them for future employment opportunities with the county. This position is eligible for benefits including, but not limited to, health, life, and dental insurance, paid time off (PTO), and an annual tuition reimbursement of up to $5,250. Location and hours:
This position is located at the North Minneapolis Service Center at 1100 Plymouth Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55411. Work hours may be scheduled Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility. This internship will require working 20 hours per week. When school is not in session the intern may work up to 40 hours per week depending on student interest and availability. This internship is expected to start December 2024 and may last up to one year in duration with a potential to extend.

Individuals hired into a SCOPE internship class are temporary and part-time. They may be eligible to be appointed to a regular position after completing their educational program.
Under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Minnesota Statues 171.017 requirements, and as Hennepin County's service center employees issue driver's licenses and identification cards, Minnesota law requires applicants to undergo a background check including fingerprinting conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Certain offenses are considered disqualifying; those are listed in Code of Federal Regulations, title 49, section 1572.103. To see list, click here.
In this position, you will:
· Provide the following list of services: marriage applications, licenses and certificates (including same-*** and opposite-*** marriages); driver's licenses, permits and IDs; motor vehicle tabs, plates, titles and registrations; watercraft, snowmobile and ATV registrations; birth and death certificates; notary services and notary commission filings; marriage officiant filings; voter registration; and real estate tax payments.
· Prepare and process various applications/documents for county and state agencies and collect appropriate fees.
· Provide accurate and complete information and instructions to the public regarding laws, policies and procedures; resolve routine customer complaints.
· Enter data and update records into various county and state programs.
· Perform cashiering, reception desk, and telephone duties.
Need to have:
· Current enrollment in an associate, bachelor's, or master's degree program for the 2024-2025 academic school year.
· 18 months or more of general clerical or public contact/public service (customer service) experience.
· Access to reliable transportation.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o Providing in-person customer service.
o Working in a fast-paced environment.
o Using a computer, the internet, and computer applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
o Multitasking and using multiple computer applications daily.
o Handling money or processing payments.
o Processing driver's licenses and/or motor vehicle renewals.
· Bilingual skills in English and another language.
Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.
