Hennepin County Library (HCL) is seeking teens ages 16-18 to join our Teen Tech Squad. Teen Tech Squad members help provide fun learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) for kids and teens. Teen Tech Squad members design and deliver programs for youth that use technology for creative expression and exploration in the arts and sciences. For more information visit employee referral program.About these position types:These positions are limited duration, non-benefit earning internships.These positions are internally classified as an Intern I.Click here to view the job classification specification.Location and hours:Teen Tech Squad members average approximately 24 hours per month while working a schedule that includes evenings and weekends. These positions involve working onsite indoors and outdoors. These positions will include indoor in-person work on site as the library continues to adapt its services. Current vacancies include:
· Brooklyn Park Library (8500 W Broadway Ave, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445): Tuesdays, Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. and every other Friday from 3-4:30 p.m.
· Roosevelt Library (4026 28th Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN 55406): Wednesdays 2-6pm and every other Friday/Saturday 1pm-4pm (June-August); Mondays 3:30-5, Fridays 3:30-5 and every other Saturday 1-4pm (September-May)
In these positions, you will:
· Guide kids and teens through hands-on workshops and learning activities focused on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
· Research and develop new STEAM activities based on personal and community interests.
· Work with other Teen Tech Squad members to develop, lead, demonstrate, trouble-shoot, and instruct others in the creation of STEAM projects.
· Set up before and clean up after programs.
· Foster a safe and open environment for kids and teens to create and share.
· Learn techniques for teaching, presenting, and facilitating hands-on learning activities for different age groups.
· Learn how to use computers, software, and tools to support creative expression and collaboration among kids and teens.
· Participate in scheduled training for skill-building, team growth, and personal growth.
Need to be:
· Enrolled in high school in spring of 2024 and expecting to graduate in 2025 or later and be between the ages of 16 and 18.
· Able to access reliable transportation to the work location for your squad.
· Able to lift up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
