Description
Hennepin County Transportation Project Delivery is seeking an intern to join the Capital Programming Team. This position will support the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Coordinator with critical tasks related to the scoping, funding, and scheduling of capital roadway and bridge projects. Each project presents an opportunity to improve connections in transportation for people walking, using transit, biking, and driving as guided by the county’s priorities in Complete Streets, Climate Action, and Reducing Disparities.

Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Public Works Facility at 1600 Prairie Drive in Medina, MN, and remote as job duties require. The Public Works Facility in Medina is not accessible by public transportation. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Reliable internet connection and self-support hybrid office space is required.
This position is anticipated to be up to 20 hours per week. The position will start in June and continue for a duration of up to 2 years. The work schedule is flexible and will be determined after candidates have been selected. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.
About this position type: This position is a part-time limited duration, non-benefit earning internship.

· Support the CIP Coordinator with GIS mapping, crash data analysis, and application development for the upcoming 2024 Regional Solicitation and 2024 Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Solicitation.
· Support the Transportation Planner with general GIS mapping and data management for CIP related work tasks.
· Support the CIP Coordinator with facilitating the 2024 Capital Project Prioritization process with work tasks such as updating guidelines, developing materials for the Technical Work Group, and preparing documents for project scoping.
· Assist the CIP Coordinator with archiving project documentation for the Capital Budget Line Items.
Need to have:
· Current enrollment or a recent graduate (within 6 months), in a vocational/technical, associate, undergraduate or graduate degree program in public administration, research methods, urban planning/studies, engineering, land surveying/highway engineering technology, civil engineering, geography, GIS, or another related field.
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· Access to reliable transportation.
Nice to have:
· Experience troubleshooting basic computer issues.
· Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail to assist with file organization, tracking, and reporting.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Teams, Outlook, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite.
· Ability to:
o Communicate effectivity using various platforms when communicating with staff at all levels of the organization.
o Work both independently and in a team setting.
