Description
Hennepin County Public Works Administration is seeking a Senior IT Data Engineer to support and advance data and analytics for the line of business. This position will work closely with the Head of Analytics and other IT professionals and assist with developing appropriate system data models, data diagrams, ETL processes, system integrations, and contribute to data planning for cloud solutions and connected technologies. As part of the Data Services team, this person will work with analysts to build, optimize, and support data pipelines for Public Works that will contribute to enterprise initiatives.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Remote workers may be required to come on-site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This position may be required to participate in an after hours on-call rotation for support of critical systems. While this position is designated as remote, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. In this position, you will:
· Build structures and systems to ensure technical capacity for service delivery to internal business partners while supporting and enforcing technical standards.
· Develop and support interface tools including appropriate system data models, workflows, API’s, ETL, data warehouse, and integrations.
· Design and develop cloud services and sustainable data structures in a data warehouse and/or data lake.
· Support and optimize current critical system databases and infrastructure.
· Partner with IT professionals and data analysts to translate data needs to sustainable data sources and structures that supports data informed decision making.
· Provide backup and support for Public Works Data Services team members, troubleshoot, and resolve root cause problems on complex data systems
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Seven years or more of informational technology experience.
o Associate/vocational/technical degree in computer science/engineering or a related information technology field and five years or more of information technology experience.
o Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, data engineering, business intelligence, data analytics or a related information technology field and three years or more of information technology experience.
· Certification in a leading professional level certification area.
Nice to have:
· Experience:
o With IT administration or IT database administration.
o In Tier II/Tier III support of critical systems; researching, testing, implementing, onboarding and supporting software and applications.
o In SQL server administration and/or different database types.
o Working on projects that involve system integrations, data migration and/or application implementation/upgrades.
o Designing and optimizing databases.
o In data architecture and/or data modeling.
o Working with structured and unstructured data.
o Working on projects to build data relationships and integrate systems.
o Researching, testing, implementing, and supporting technical solutions.
o Implementing solutions for data driven decision making.
o With technical support of critical systems (on-prem, hybrid and vendor hosted).
o With development skills using Microsoft toolsets including but not limited to Visual Studio, Power BI, SQL Management Studio, SSIS, SSRS, and PowerShell.
· Knowledge of:
o Relationship between data, business process and technology systems.
o Azure data tools and Data Bricks.
o Power BI and other data visualization tools.
o SSRS (Reporting Services), SSIS (integration Services), T-SQL, Batch scripting, PowerShell, Crystal Reports and Crystal Reports Server.
o IT best practices, IT support processes, agile methodologies/frameworks, organizational applications, technology integration, security concepts, virtual and cloud concepts, networking and data continuity.
o TSQL, VB.NET or C#, JavaScript, OOJAVA.
· Ability to:
o Improve data systems and evaluate current systems.
o Make recommendations for improvements of data structures to support predictive analytics and robust statistical analysis.
o Work with data analysts on developing sustainable data sources.
o Facilitate meetings and communicate effectively through written and in-person presentations.
o Organize and plan work effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
o Work independently or as part of a team.
o Write documentation for both end-user instructional and technical audiences.
