Hennepin County Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant (MA) to work in shelter-based clinics, who has an interest in and experience working with a diverse population in a clinic setting. This position will provide clinical support services to clients who are experiencing homelessness and will be cross trained to help staff other clinics in Public Health Clinical Services. The MA position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides primary care, care coordination, and acute care services to a wide variety of clients.

Location and hours:
This position is on-site at the Health Care for the Homeless clinic at 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404 and requires travel between clinic locations throughout Hennepin County. Work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This position will also require working one evening shift per week. No overnight or holiday shifts are required.
In this position, you will:
Interview clients presenting for care; take vital signs and complete required documentation within the Epic system.
Assist nurse practitioners and medical staff with exams and treatments; administer immunizations, draw blood, and maintain vaccine inventory and storage.
Perform limited lab tests, such as urine or sputum sample collection; assist in maintaining lab documentation, perform laboratory proficiency tests, and prepare lab specimens for transport.
Manage inventory and stock medications and supplies; assist with packing, stocking, and transport of supplies within the clinics.
Perform clean up after medical exams; maintain aseptic environment according to cleaning policies and schedules and clean and maintain clinical equipment including instruments, refrigerators, cabinets, and counter surfaces.
Schedule follow up appointments with clients utilizing Epic, the clinic's electronic health record system.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Diploma or associate degree from an accredited Medical Assistant program that includes a clinical externship.
Certification or eligibility for certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
Ability to perform the following duties with or without reasonable accommodation:
Lift a child weighing up to 30-pounds from the floor.
Maneuver wheelchairs carrying patients weighing up to 300 pounds.
Walk and stand for long periods of time.
Nice to have:
Six or more months of experience as a Medical Assistant providing services to medically underserved populations in a clinic setting.
Current CPR certification.
Experience:
Working in a community health setting and/or working with diverse populations.
Using Epic or a similar Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to schedule and register clients and document client data/care.
In records management (e.g., filing charts and gathering, scanning, and abstracting chart materials).
In phlebotomy.
Knowledge of:
Community resources and publicly funded assistance programs.
Appropriate standard and emergency procedures for handling sterile/contaminated materials.
