Description
Hennepin County Human Resources department is seeking an Occupational Clinical Case Manager. This position will provide telephonic medical case management for workers’ compensation claims to ensure medical treatment plans are developed and followed per evidenced based guidelines, evaluate prior authorizations for medical procedures and surgeries, coordinate safe and timely return to work following an occupational injury, and provide medical expertise and communication support to the workers’ compensation claims staff. Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the 625 Building, 625 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415, and remote as job duties require. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
· Establish timely verbal and/or written communication with injured workers, medical providers, and supervisors; review relevant medical records to ensure treatment plans are effective and progressing.
· Apply Minnesota workers’ compensation treatment parameters, MD Guidelines or Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) standards of care are being applied and followed on cases.
· Facilitate return to work plans to ensure injured workers return to work is safe and aligns within any applicable restrictions.
· Review prior authorization requests from medical providers for surgical/medical procedures.
· Support claim staff by being a medical resource, which may include answering questions, requesting and reviewing relevant medical records and communicating directly with medical providers, injured workers or supervisors.
· Support the workers’ compensation team by keeping up to date on relevant medical best practices.
· Assist with developing best practices and cost containment measures related to workers’ compensation medical spend.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Eight or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets.
o Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and four or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets.
· At least one of the following certifications: Certified Case Manager (CCM), Certified Disability Management Specialist (CDMS), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN).
Nice to have:
· A valid license, in good standing, as a Registered Nurse, or a permit to practice, issued by the State of Minnesota.
· Clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in case management, occupational health or rehabilitation nursing.
· Experience with MD Guidelines and/or ODG.
