The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Senior or Career Probation/Parole Officer to join its Adult Pre-Adjudication Services (APAS) division as a Utility Probation Officer. This position will be assigned to the Pretrial unit, which is responsible for the completion of bail evaluations on individuals booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center. This position may be asked to provide coverage for any APAS unit for Probation Officers when they are out on approved leaves, to ensure clients are receiving equitable services. When there are gaps between coverage assignments, these officers will assist in projects and initiatives of their primary division. Thus, selected candidates will have the opportunity to grow and develop skills in support of their desired career path. Location and hours:
This position will provide on-site coverage primarily at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility, 401 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415 and will provide additional coverage at the Brookdale (6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota 55430), Ridgedale (112601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka, Minnesota 55305), and Government Center (300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55487) probation offices. The work schedule is generally Monday through Friday, starting between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and ending between 4:30p p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

In this position, you will:
· Perform functions of the assigned supervision model/program area/unit.
· Demonstrate good judgement, discretion and decision making in all aspects of the role, with specific ability to defend over-ride the Adult Pretrial Evaluation Scale results to the court as required on their cases and the cases of Probation Parole Officer peers.
· Carry an assigned caseload for the investigation and/or supervision of adults under the jurisdiction of District Court, or the MN Department of Corrections.
· Provide stability during the transition from Agent of Record and continuity of case management and case plan progress. Monitor or coach client compliance with court-ordered conditions and pursuit of well-being.
· Utilize Motivational Interviewing to establish and maintain rapport with clients and increase intrinsic motivation to change.
· Evaluate client’s risk, needs and presenting behaviors. Make referrals for treatment programming based on client risk and needs when appropriate.
· Interface with the District Court/Department of Corrections including writing report, attending hearings, providing testimony and in certain assignments, defending recommendations.
· Collaborate with law enforcement and criminal justice partners regarding client’s involvement in criminal activity to promote public safety and rehabilitation.
· Participate and lead projects/initiatives to improve services in assigned division.
o Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.
Need to have:
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program); and one or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Career, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and eight or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and six or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.

Nice to have:
· Experience completing bail evaluations.
· Experience currently working as/or have ever been a probation/parole officer.
· Completion of Motivational Interviewing training.
· Excellent communication, time management and task prioritization skills, and comfortable with evolving technology.
· Knowledge of:
o The principles of social learning theory and human behavior.
o Casework practices, conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics, interviewing and investigative methods.
o The criminal justice system, criminology, individual and group behavior, chemical dependency assessment and treatment.
o Legal procedures, therapeutic and strength-based approaches to motivating changes in behavior, assessment of needs and appropriate interventions.
· Ability to:
o Work successfully across cultures, respectful of lived experiences in all communications and demonstrate on-going expansion of one's own awareness and understanding of culture and active support for equity.
o Build effective, strengths-based relationships, be flexible and adaptive when working with clients, peers, supervisors, departmental priorities, and external stakeholders.
o Function independently within defined agency policy and procedures and maintain confidentiality of client information.
o Evaluate results of investigations, interpret information, and make recommendations; resolve conflicts, problem solve and make decisions.
o Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, work effectively and respectfully with a variety of clients in a variety of settings and use differing intervention strategies which facilitate offender change.
