Description
The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Senior or Career Probation/Parole Officer to join its Adult Probation Supervision Services (APSS) division as a Utility Probation Officer. This position primarily involves providing coverage for Probation Officers in various units within APSS when they are out on approved leaves or for other caseload coverage needs, to ensure clients are receiving consistent and equitable services. When caseload coverage is not needed, this position will assist in projects and initiatives, which may include serving as a designated DOCCR representative and leader.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. Salary based upon qualifications:
Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $63,084.38 - $94,626.57 AnnuallyProbation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $69,550.52 - $104,325.79 Annually
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on site at any of the DOCCR Adult Field division locations within Hennepin County, and remote as job duties require. The work schedule is generally Monday through Friday, starting between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. and ending between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable after the new employee successfully completes probation.

In this position, you will:
· Perform functions of the assigned supervision model/program area/unit.
· Demonstrate good judgement, discretion and decision making in all aspects of the role.
· Provide stability during the transition from Agent of Record and continuity of case management and case plan progress. Monitor or coach client compliance with court-ordered conditions and pursuit of well-being.
· Evaluate client’s risk, needs and presenting behaviors. Make referrals for treatment programming based on client risk and needs when appropriate.
· Adhere to governing state, local, or federal rules of the caseload in addition to DOCCR policy
· Interface independently with the District Court/Department of Corrections including writing report, attending hearings, providing testimony and in certain assignments, defending recommendations.
· Work successfully cross-cultures, be respectful of lived experiences in all communications and demonstrate on-going expansion of one's own awareness and understanding of culture and active support for equity.
· Maintain documentation of a wide variety of case activity, including, be not limited to contact with clients, victims concerned parties and treatment agencies within DOCCR's case management system and other department data systems.
· Collaborate with law enforcement and criminal justice partners regarding client’s involvement in criminal activity to promote public safety and rehabilitation.
· Participate and lead projects/initiatives to improve services in assigned division.
o Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
o Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.
Need to have:
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
o Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program); and one or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Career, one of the following:
o Associates degree in any field and eight or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in non-related field and six or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
o Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field and five or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.

Nice to have:
· Experience currently working as/or have ever been a probation/parole officer.
· Knowledge of:
o The principles of social learning theory, human behavior, and Evidence-Based practices.
o Casework practices, conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics, interviewing and investigative methods.
o Completing and interpreting actuarial assessments to formulate case plan strategies to facilitate client change.
o The criminal justice system, criminology, individual and group behavior, chemical dependency assessment and treatment.
o Legal procedures, therapeutic and strength-based approaches to motivating changes in behavior, assessment of needs and appropriate interventions.
· Ability to:
o Work successfully across cultures, respectful of lived experiences in all communications and demonstrate on-going expansion of one's own awareness and understanding of culture and active support for equity.
o Build effective, strengths-based relationships, be flexible and adaptive when working with clients, peers, supervisors, departmental priorities, and external stakeholders.
o Function independently within defined agency policy and procedures and maintain confidentiality of client information.
o Evaluate results of investigations, interpret information, and make recommendations; resolve conflicts, problem solve and make decisions.
o Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, work effectively and respectfully with a variety of clients in a variety of settings and use differing intervention strategies which facilitate offender change.
