Description
The Property Tax Division of the Resident and Real Estate Services (RRES) department is seeking to fill a Real Estate and Tax Specialist III position. This position will review, process, record, and maintain real property and tax records. A Real Estate and Tax Specialist III must possess and demonstrate expert customer service skills and knowledge of complex property tax or real property records processes and policies.

Effective January 1, 2023, there will be a salary increase of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range.

Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center in downtown Minneapolis at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., with flexibility. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

In this position, you will:
Process tax court orders, homestead adjustments, valuation, penalty abatements, and canceled payments.
Review and determine whether penalty waivers will be granted following established policies.
Perform complex tax calculations and manage specialized tax programs such as the senior citizen tax deferral program; calculation of payoff amounts for deferred taxes (e.g., Green Acres/Open Space programs); special assessments; transmission line credits; possible property tax overpayments; and tax court orders.
Respond to inquiries from taxpayers, attorneys, and mortgage companies regarding all aspects of the abatement process.
Assist the Tax Calculation team in planning, coordinating, and hosting the County Board of Appeals and Equalization.
Need to have:
One of the following:
Three years or more of clerical experience processing and maintaining financial and/or legal documents
33 months or more of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program
Note: Business or other related education may be substituted for experience on a semester basis
Nice to have:
Experience
Working as a Real Estate and Tax Specialist I and/or Real Estate and Tax Specialist II.
Providing customer service in-person or over the telephone.
Working with complex math, such as calculating interest and tax amounts.
With Minnesota state statutes and/or real estate terminology in a work setting.
Using Microsoft Office Suite products.
Ability to work independently and meet objectives under limited supervision.
