Our Seasonal Utility Locator position locates underground electrical, electronic and communication facilities owned and maintained by MnDOT per Gopher State One Call requests and internal agency requests. This position will:
Maintain and update files of field prints, wiring diagrams, ticket notes, and field diary/notebook.
Attend pre-construction meetings to get information on the scope of the project, project schedule and project contacts to assist in coordinating utility locates.
Maintain assigned locator equipment and vehicle, including daily walk around vehicle inspection and routine oil changes.
Work outdoors in all weather conditions (exempt from snow and ice duties).
This position is seasonal from March – November and eligible for unemployment benefits during layoff at the end of each season.

This posting represents a multi-level posting. If this position is not filled by qualified applicants at the Transportation Generalist Senior Level, the position will be filled at the Transportation Generalist Level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The level of experience to perform this job at the TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR (TGS) level can be achieved with:
Two years of experience performing underground electrical utility locates; OR
One year of experience performing underground electrical utility locates AND a combination of one year of experience in any of the following areas: bridge maintenance, bridge safety inspection, contract administration, roadway and/or bridge construction, design, hydraulics, materials, soils, permits planning, pre-design, right of way, road surface/roadside maintenance, and signs, surveys, snow/ice, and/or traffic engineering, etc.
AND
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. For education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts.
The level of experience to perform this job at the TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST (TG) level can be achieved with:
One year of experience performing underground electrical utility locates.
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
A valid class D driver’s license.
