The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking to fill multiple vacancies for Sentencing to Service Crewleader positions in the Client and Community Restoration division. The mission of the Sentencing to Service program is to provide clients with a safe opportunity to learn new job skills, gain self-confidence, and complete community improvement/restoration projects which benefit the residents of Hennepin County in a fiscally responsible way.Sentencing to Service Crewleaders provide a structured work option within the county's justice system that is responsive to the need for client centered reliability and compensates victims and communities for any damages or losses that have occurred. Salary will be based upon the qualifications of the applicants and is negotiable within the salary range for this position.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. For more information visit the employee referral program page. Effective December 31, 2023, there will be a general salary adjustment of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range.
Location and hours: This position is located at 3000 North 2nd Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55411. Sentencing to Service work crews operate seven days a week. Sentencing to Service Crewleaders are assigned to one of two shifts; Saturday through Tuesday, 6:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or Thursday through Sunday, 6:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and progress to more favorable shifts with only one weekend day based on seniority and staffing needs. Based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

· Perform as a working supervisor and perform the same work with the crew members.
· Provide orientation, transportation, and training to crew members (clients) who are sentenced by the courts (maximum size of a crew is eleven members).
· Plan, organize, and schedule community work service projects.
· Supervise and lead crews to ensure that projects are completed efficiently, safely, and with a high level of quality; motivate crew members and manage conflict.
· Maintain equipment and complete inventory of power and hand tools.
· Communicate Hennepin County's Sentencing to Service philosophy, policies, and procedures to the crew and to the community.
· Prepare documentation for court, probation, and law enforcement staff to provide client status information and to ensure services are provided and maintain a program log of daily program activities for quarterly reporting to local and state agencies.
Need to have:
· One of the following:
o Two years or more of full-time equivalent work experience in natural resources, forestry, landscape, agriculture, corrections, law enforcement, criminal justice or a related area.
o Two years or more of full-time equivalent college or vocational/technical course work in corrections, law enforcement, or related criminal justice or behavioral/social science field.
o Active military duty with an honorable discharge.
o Completion of the Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate (Download PDF reader) from Metro State and one year of relevant coursework or experience as listed above.
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· Ability to:
o Lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
o Perform strenuous work in varying temperatures and terrain.
o Get Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certificates.
