Description
Do you have one year or more of experience as a Peace Officer and have an active MN Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) license? Come join our team as a Deputy Sheriff with our Court Services unit. The Court Services unit provides security to all of Hennepin County's Fourth Judicial District. The unit is also responsible for the security and safekeeping of all in-custody defendants making court appearances. This position will have the overall responsibility of providing protection and security for the Hennepin County Court system. As a Deputy Sheriff you will have the opportunity to expand your public safety experience through training, promotion, and opportunities for specialized law enforcement assignments. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office offers initiatives such as Criminal Information Sharing and Analysis, Violent Offender Task Force, Crime Scene Investigation, Criminal Investigation, Community Outreach and Employee Wellness. Location and hours:
This position will be on-site at various Hennepin County locations in downtown Minneapolis and surrounding suburban office locations. Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position occasionally requires working a flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays, and is subject to emergency call back 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. All deputies are subject to call back 24 hours a day.

In this position, you will:
· Provide physical security for courtrooms and holding areas in the Fourth Judicial District located in the Government Center, Juvenile Justice Center, suburban court locations, Family Justice Center and Public Safety Facility.
· Ensure security for on-duty court personnel, which includes judges, referees, clerks, reporters, and attorneys; jurors in providing for their safety and deliberation free from interference; prisoners and patients-- providing for their orderly flow through the judicial system via escort duties; security and operation of various court security control rooms located throughout the county.
· Respond to medical and other emergencies that come to the Court Security unit's attention.
· Provide security and law enforcement services to Hennepin County facilities as assigned. This includes answering alarms, responding to emergencies, maintaining order, and making arrests.
Need to have:
· Licensure or eligible to be licensed as a peace officer by hire date in the state of Minnesota by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
· A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
· The ability to work a flexible schedule including day, evening, overnight, on-call, holiday, and weekend hours.
· No convictions of a felony or other criminal conviction as outlined in the MN POST Board rules.
· The ability to pass each of the following exam components:
o Background investigation.
o Physical abilities test.
o Psychological evaluation.
o Medical examination.
o Drug screening.
o Firearms evaluation.
Nice to have:
· One year or more experience as a law enforcement officer.

· Ability to:
o Communicate verbally and in writing.
o React quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
o Observe situations analytically and objectively and respond accordingly.
o Handle situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially.
o Use good judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Applicants must have no felony convictions and must successfully complete a drug test that may include testing for cannabis, extensive background investigation, and a pre-employment physical and psychological assessment prior to employment.
