The Behavioral Health area of Hennepin County Human Services is seeking one Social Worker and one Senior Social Worker for the Behavioral Health Center. The walk-in center serves Hennepin County residents 18+ living with substance use disorders and/or mental health conditions. We offer a voluntary social service led response to meaningfully connect residents to services and supports that match their needs. The Behavioral Health Center is an alternative to unnecessary jail or hospital use for Hennepin County residents who have needs related to mental health or substance use.
Salary will be based upon qualifications:
Social Worker $60,122.30 - $86,707.06 Annually
Senior Social Worker $63,295.19 - $95,606.70 Annually
Location and hours:
These are onsite positions located on the first floor at the Behavioral Health Center at 1800 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, 55404. The walk-in services are currently open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., with weekend expansion anticipated within the next year. These positions will work 40 hours per week within the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., which may include weekend hours. These positions will primarily work in the walk-in center and may go out into the community with residents at times. Based on current requirements hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
In the Social Worker position, you will:
Welcome and hold space for individuals in a walk-in work environment; develop rapport, show respect, and honor client’s choice in a fast-paced clinic environment.
Triage and assess needs and engage diverse clients who are experiencing a crisis related to mental health and/or substance use for example, food, clothing, shelter, mental health stabilization, withdrawal management.
Ensure continuity of care, or transitions of care, between and amongst other mental health (MH), substance use disorder (SUD), and/or housing programs for clients/residents; stay connected and follow-up with the client and the client’s identified supports up to 60 days until they are connected to longer-term treatment and recovery supports.
Maintain and contribute to policies, procedures, and resources for the staff team and case records and correspondence with an interdisciplinary team, including completing needs assessments, functional assessments, and harm reduction assessments.
In the Social Worker, Senior position, you will:
Welcome and hold space for individuals in a walk-in work environment; develop rapport, show respect, and honor client’s choice in a fast-paced clinic environment.
Triage and assess needs and engage diverse clients who are experiencing a crisis or have needs related to mental health and/or substance use.
Ensure continuity of care, or transitions of care, between and amongst other mental health (MH), substance use disorder (SUD), and/or housing programs; stay connected and follow-up with the client and the client’s identified supports up to 60 days until they are connected to longer-term treatment and recovery supports.
Maintain and contribute to policies, procedures, and resources for the staff team and maintain case records and correspondence with an interdisciplinary team.
Make decisions with limited supervision, including performing needs assessments, harm reduction assessments, and functional assessments, and responding to clients experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crisis.
Provide support and consultation to other teammates, including but not limited to case consultation, signing documentation, facilitating workgroups or meetings, or developing tools and resources.
Need to have:
For hire as a Social Worker, one of the following:
Licensed as a Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, or equivalent field.
For hire as a Senior Social Worker, one of the following:
Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles or social welfare.
A valid driver's license and daily access to reliable transportation to travel primarily within/outside of the metro area to meet with clients in their residential settings and/or perform authorized off-site work duties.
Nice to have:
Dually licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), or any of the following:
Current Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LSGW), Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and working towards becoming clinically licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
Experience:
Serving individuals living with substance use disorder.
Serving individuals living with a mental health condition.
Effectively interacting with people from diverse backgrounds including efforts towards disparity reduction.
Knowledge of:
County and community resources for mental health, substance use disorder, social services, and basic needs.
Harm reduction principles.
Trauma-informed care principles.
Person-centered thinking.
Social determinants of health.
Ability to:
Function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and independent judgment.
Effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
Work well in a group setting, be accountable to the team.
